Hi Everyone,

No, not that lot in Westminster!

A bit light hearted but maybe useful to someone......On a Duratec 1.8 which way up do you insert your dipstick.

The sump is non Ford and the oil level marker on the end of the dipstick is cylindrical, approx 1.5" long with a flat on one side and min/max marks.

The dipstick guide tube actually bends at the bottom into the sump so the dipstick enters the sump at an angle. Consequently, the level shows lower on the marker if facing upwards than downwards, about 1/4".

I believe the answer is to insert downwards. The sump capacity is 5.8 litres and a measured fill takes the level to the top mark (on my car)

Incidentally, it is quite difficult to read the dip stick level at an oil change.

Hope it gives some amusement or help.

Regards

Geof

Almost certainly downwards, assuming the flat area markings are then facing you and front of car when withdrawn.

With fresh oil lay dipstick horizontally on clean kitchen towel to see oil level mark.
