I have to say I agree. Morgans should always be bought on condition, and a long door 3.9 Hotwire car with stainless bulkhead & inner wings is probably the most desirable spec - all the later build quality improvements without the complexity of GEMS.

It's not like the market is exactly flooded with cars of this spec for sale. The way I see it there are two major risks:

1. You spend so long looking for a car at the right price the market moves even further away from your chosen price point

or

2. You end up having to buy a car with some issues that need rectification, leading to a final expenditure much greater than you would have paid by buying a good one.

I don't think the market is moving very quickly (upwards) for +8's, unless the car is very low mileage?

For general privately owned cars with 40-70K miles I think it worth noting that there is a very small number of potential customers, in the +8 market...as the +4 is considerably cheaper to: Buy - Own and Service etc. It is a specialist's car.

I spoke to Allon White Morgan about a month ago - they had just sold a 2000 3.9 +8 with all the desirable options I am after i.e. Alloy body, gal chassis, and ss bulkhead....and that car was advertised for under £30K (and it sold for less!) however it had 63,000 miles and that was the reason it was competitively priced.

I do believe that the "market" wants cars with 15-20k miles (especially selling Dealers) and it these that make £37+...as they are now very few and far between.

I have now looked at a couple - (met two great Morgan owners along the way!) however I could not settle on either car....the search continues.....thanks.

Can I suggest you have a look at the Morgan Owners Club Australia web site, there is a 2004 model for sale in NZ.
Due to our draconian laws in Aussie we are unable to import cars here later than 1989, otherwise I would have been all over this car like a rash.
Hassles with inspection and shipping I know, but just another option.

Still looking not many about at the moment....

Like you I know what I like and buy it straight away if it's low mileage and condition is good .


Well Murray there was very nearly 2 identical Plus 8's in NZ, my old school and college mate was visiting and of course we had to have a little spirited runout last week, he loved it and made me a very good offer and I very nearly accepted but my heart kicked in and saved the day .

I have created an itch I think he'll have to scratch now he's actively searching.

I do know the 2004 plus 8 in NZ for sale and it's a one owner car only for sale because he has just taken delivery of a brand new plus 8 !

Question for anyone: the luggage rack on the allon white car stands rather high and proud of the back of the car (just like my 1997 3.9); my question is whether this design of luggage rack is the standard +8 (to clear the wider tire perhaps?) or whether a lower profile rack is available and will fit?
