Hi, after having installed a new windowscreen as warranty from the factory I noticed that streams of rust were dripping out of the lift the dot fasteners on the screens. it appeared that the studs were so thinly covered wirh chrome that the pure iron was coming out . I dont know who manufacturers these windowscreens. not only did they crack but now they rust after 3 weeks. pretty disappointed. has anyone else experienced this?

No, but I can share the following - my 2003 Plus 8 has severe pitting corrosion along the top of one of the wing mirror arms - very disappointing (especially as it is garaged in California!) If the studs on your windscreen have a mechanical function, there is the risk of stress corrosion and the steel-nickel-chromium bonds must be perfect and pore-free in the presence of any trapped water and ESPECIALLY salt. I think for this reason stainless steel is preferred - I recently read that "The largest use of Type 430(SS) is in automotive trim and molding". I can only suggest complaining to the manufacturer and demanding a windscreen, not a corroding battery!

Jurgen, I would take this back to MMC. My 94 4/4 had the same screen and never rusted even thogh 10 plus years old. Not the same for the mild steel body. You could also change the top rail for a Simmonds version.
Sad to hear though. John

Sad to hear though. John John, I may have this wrong but doesn't the Simmonds version still use the original rail on the screen but minus the pop receivers. If that's the case, isn't the risk of the rail itself having been weakened by rust caused by water ingress, still present? AS I said, I may be confused here and, if so, please feel free to ignore my ramblings! G G

"I dont know who manufacturers these windowscreens"
Sorry to read of your problem Juergen.
Supeficial quality on the cheap---sounds like the hallmark of the orient, specifically China, dont know how one would check this apart from asking the factory directly, although in their defence, I can report that in a recent conversation with Charles Morgan he did say to me that their company policy was to source locally and NOT the Far East. The problem today though is that its near impossible to know where any component is physcally made, even if your supplier is local!!
Hope you get it sorted soon.

There are two versions. One replaces the the top rail with a new one.
Try their website.

If the supplier is adhering to ISO 900x then he should be able to tell exactly where components were manufactured...

Juergen ref your web site---phantastisch! Amazing loyalty to the brand/Morgan family ---really think you should get some kind of MMC customer recognition. In comparison to you I feel like the new boy in the neighbourhood! Probably many of the other chaps will feel the same when they see your long involvement with the car. Good luck again with the other matter. Regards David of SW19

A question following my last message. Very curious to find out having been so involved for so long with Morgans, why you only joined Talkmorgan so recently? Is there anything similar in Germany or is Simons happy band of brothers (with the occaisional sister) in TM unique? Regards (again!) from David of SW19
