Driving my MX5 tonight around 35 miles along mainly country twisty roads i noticed the car wasn't the usual planted limpet that it usually is. Felt a bit like the tyres were underinflated. However they are fine . Has anyone else noticed less grip during this hot spell? I'm guessing the tar is melting and the surface is smoother in places?

The tyres are Toyo Proxis with about 1000 miles on them.

The roads were bone dry as well, no hint of rain in deepest Sussex.

Yes..! Had a ride on the Bonnie on Sunday & felt exactly the same, complete with a really queasy slip from the back on one particular bend..

Nice ride in the Roadster today, but kept below 60mph as too darn hot..

I get this in my (classic) mini which tends to work its tyres quite hard - I put it down to greater tread block movement as the tyres get hot (too hot to comfortably keep your palm pressed onto the tread in some cases). It feels very sketchy on fast uneven roads. Bizarrely it makes the low-speed steering load up to a point where it is a real physical effort.

Hence the F1 wet tyres overheating on drying tracks. The tread blocks flex much more generating heat and less grip. Plus non slick so reduced contact area.
Myself, I haven’t been out that much to spot grip loss. Certainly not at any speed.

Probably the build up of rubber particles on the surface, having not been washed away having some effect.

I was driving home from Yeovilton on a hot day last summer. Going up a sw facing slope the rear tires were gripping the surface better than it was gripping its foundation so tore up quite a bit of road. That felt pretty odd and would have been even more odd if in a bend.
