That's a great description Mark! I was trying to guess your verdict as I read, it didn't sound too hopeful for a while.

The car which I have my eye on at the moment is a 1972. Some deficiencies have been at least partially remedied. For instance it has later seats and the engine has had some tuning work done (possibly camshaft).

I was talking to my neighbour a couple of days ago. He has had a nearly 20 year old BMW Z3 for several years. It has about twice the power of a Kent 4/4, power steering, anti lock servoed brakes, heated seats, a dry hood and a deep, throaty six cylinder exhaust note. He paid under £3K for it and, as he jovially pointed out to me, he could have a whole row of them for the price of one old 4/4... but of course, I'm smitten and can overlook all of this!

I don't think I've mentioned on here why I'm wanting a four seater. It isn't to carry passengers but for our little dog, luggage and maybe even my wifes wheelchair (assuming it and she will manage to get in the car).

Something I hadn't considered until a conversation with Dave Randall at Lifes a few months ago. The higher scuttle of the four seater gives slightly improved entry/exit to/from the car. An extra advantage which I hadn't thought of for myself. I realise the long door cars are also a bit easier but they would mostly be beyond my budget.

Anyway, I seem to be rambling a bit. Must get on with my weekend jobs.

Many Mog owners have dogs on the back shelf behind the 2 seater seats.
I have also seen wheelchairs carried on the rack.

My mum who used a zimmer frame could get into my +4 2 seater easily but had to be pulled out.

Well, we might get away with a two seater but to be honest, I've got attached to the idea of the fourseater now. I prefer the older ones without the easy-up hood. They look less bulky open and have that "so ugly its cute" look when the hood is up (my take on it but no offence intended).

As regards getting in and out of the car. I fear my wife may struggle to get out - for instance she doesn't like to use a sunbed in the garden now because of the difficulty of getting up from the low sitting position, maybe in a similar way to your mother John?

I agree, theirs a lot to be said for the older models hood wise.I have just come from the old style to the easy up, and find the whole thing a space eating heathrobinson device. Hate it.

That is a most interesting observation Ray after all your time with the studded roof, I must admit I think the easy ups do look clumsy sitting on the back like a sausage roll when not in use.

When searching for my 4 seater emphasis was put on finding a rust and rot free car. I was very fortunate and found one which now seems very reasonable priced being 3 years ago. I immediately improved seats,suspension,engine(t.b.'s on a crossflow) exhaust,battery,starter motor and now have a turnkey car. With hindsight I would have bought a longer door model for easier access.
Also I changed the high level luggage rack for o low level version which carries my wife's wheelchair.

Me too, having had a spell with the easy up style myself and it's why I went back to the studded variety on my current 4/4.

More luggage space with the easy up. It provides a few cm more behind the seats when folded, plus the studded hood has to be carried somewhere when its off........
And far better sealing over the header rail.
