Hi Ray , not quite sure what you mean by turning the fan spades . I will have to ask what you mean . ? . Maybe that would help but not sure . Or - What about adding a pusher fan in front of the radiator. Have you ever done that or know anyone who did ? Thanks , Marlene . My fan (original from new) had the wires fitted to the underneath of the motor. They woul periodically vibrate off so loseing power to the fan. Unbolted the fan motor turned it 180 degrees bolted back.. never fell off again. PS to refill I would fill the rad to the brim ,fill the expansion tank halfway, check expansion tank after it has cooled after a good run. Keep doing this untill it stops dropping in level, it can take some time to settle down.

A 1972 car is getting on a bit now and is it possible that there have been some long periods of inactivity in its history? If this is the case I would be very tempted to go for a complete flush of the cooling system , drain everything right down and back flush it with a hosepipe. If this produces a large amount of deposits from inside the engine block I would repeat the process until you are happy that it is all out.
This engine can indeed be prone to air pockets , and as others have said , just keep using it , and checking the overflow tank until it settles down to a nice steady level.
Personally I would not add a pusher fan in front of the radiator as this will blank off cooling flow , the puller behind should be sufficient.
Fan belt tension used to be an issue with the early Moss Box +8, until they modified the pulleys and the belt, are you sure that there is no belt slippage.
Lastly check that the hoses are not "collapsing" under heat and pressure.

The water hose comes off the front top of the inlet manifold and attaches to the small tank where you add coolant. It is beween the carb mounting flanges.1/4"rubber hose. Its purpose is to vent air from the top of the engine. Sorry I cant send a picture.

If you haven’t fitted an expansion tank on the bulkhead do so. Feed the expansion tank by a new line from the overflow port on the remote filler. Replace the pressure cap on the remote filler by a sealed cap and use the pressure cap on the expansion tank. Top up the system from the expansion tank only.

The temp gauge in Morgans are/have been inaccurate. Is Your +8 boiling over. If not check the gauge with one of those infra red gauges. Cheap and auto parts store has them. If it is boiling over, do as Andy Garlic suggests and have the cooling system flushed.
