I am new to Talk Morgan. I bought a 72 + 8 last year and put a new aluminum radiator in it . Then this summer I installed an oil cooler to help it run cooler but now it overheats . What could have happened ? My mechanic can’t figure it out . Could I have an air bubble in the coolant system ? No blown head gasket . It keeps blowing fuses but I am not sure why . Any ideas ? Thanks , Hammy

Does the oil cooler block getting cold air to the radiator?
Cheers,
Bert

Welcome to tm.Do you have the original inlet and carbs on the car? Its possible the vent off the inlet manifold is blocked.
Thats the small hose that goes to the expansion tank.
What fuse blows?

Hi. Yes which fuse blows? Check the fan is drawing air into the engine, not blowing. What temp is fan cutting in? Is it the old fan? I have an ali rad and newer cooling fan. It use to blow fuses on start up, so rewired and increased the fuse ampage.

The early +8 can be a pain to clear airlocks. a lot of hose squeezeing and topping up of the expansion tank. My +8 also had a habit of the spade connection dropping of the fan. Cured this by turning the fan over in its mounting so that the spades connected to the top of the fan.

.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

Hi Ray , not quite sure what you mean by turning the fan spades . I will have to ask what you mean . ? . Maybe that would help but not sure . Or - What about adding a pusher fan in front of the radiator. Have you ever done that or know anyone who did ? Thanks , Marlene

Hi Georgetoad ,
The 72 +8 has all the original emissions spaghetti and SU carbs . I am not sure if the tube or hose is where it should be . Do you have a picture of the correct hose and correct position ? I don’t think there is a hose ....
For expansion tank , do you mean the plastic overflow bottle at the firewall or the tank on top of the radiator where we add coolant ?
The fuse closest to the firewall blows . It is a 35 amp .

Thanks ,
Marlene H

I know that I added water wetter to my coolant and to make room for the water wetter , I had to take coolant out with a turkey Baster . So I lowered the coolant level at that time , by taking too much out of the expansion tank . Did I take too much ? The level of coolant is at the bottom of the expansion tank , not up to the top by the radiator cap like it was . Did I cause a bubble in the system ?
Thanks ,
Marlene H
