There's something special in the way the rain comes over the screen & coats the inside. And how it drips from the header onto the half tonneau. The only thing I'm not keen on is at junctions, it can wet your specs...................

I test drove my car with the hood up and sides off, mainly because I had been playing with the hood in the showroom and couldn't be bothered to take it off again. It was a bit draughty if i recall. I will be needing a new hood soon and I may have a zip out rear screen fitted, so for the hottest days for long trips i can hood up to keep out of the sun, and reduce the buffeting by letting the wind out of rear screen. I used to use this configuration on my mx5 sometimes after I got a bad dose of sunburn on a long hot drive.

Thank you all,

As ever a wonderful plethora of responses showing the wide variety of styles and preferences to owning and using these unique vehicles. The advice is well received, but i have made up my mind on which way to go.

My late father has owned the +8 I've inherited for nearly a quarter of a century. Tonight I unpacked the meticulously stored hood from the loft and realised it has laid in state for nearly 23 years without a day of use. Like tucking in a sleeping child i reverently rapped it back up and resolved that there it should remain for another few decades!

My West Bromwich Albion beannie should sort out the comfort issues through the Winter months.

None of you have got this right. Only way to travel is no roof, no sidescreens, no windscreen and two little aero screens. Need to wrap up warm though and rain hurts, but only when you are moving. Half tonneau if your are on your own, if you are feeling the cold.

Can only agree to this.
Add a long winding road and a nice landscape to it and it gets even better drive

Graham,

you are right, the thunderstorm - now that did hurt. Harvey knows it is worth it though. Tim

How about a quick to erect umbrella for when stopped at lights/junction?
I much prefer driving hood down and have driven to avoid the raindrops a few times now. However, if its really heavy rain i dont like the idea of the interior getting too wet so hood up and deal with the leaks.I may try the hood/no screens option on a suitable day too. Has anyone used wind deflectors in this mode?
halfway between sidescreens and none?
