I know from my own experience of a powerful classic car how much the rear springs can distort. I wouldn't have believed it possible if I hadn't seen it for myself.

I agree that two anti-tramp bars are required, one either side.

Only Morgan would fit one !

Here is a link to a Dutch morgan owner who filmed the back axle of his Roadster showing the leaf spring flexing with and without anti-tramp bars, and the prop shaft thrashing around in the transmission tunnel.

I had anti-tramp bars fitted because the prop shaft hit the inside of the tunnel under acceleration, especially when loaded.

Just had the rear springs swapped to 4 Leaf 4 seater springs on my 2011 4/4
What model adjustable AVO shocks are you all fitting to the rear end, and does any one have the part number so I get the right ones ?
Details for the front AVO’s might be handy too, may as well do all four.
Cheers John

John, I will check during the coming week which model/number of AVO shocks I have. TBH I do not think there are more models than one but we will see. BTW have you had some experience in the meantime using the 4 Leaf 4 seater springs?

Hi Heinz, thank you.

I Have not tried the car with the new springs yet as I only got it back on Thursday and I have both seats out to give the inside a big clean and feed the leather. I also made seat runner spacers to make them slide easier. Might get a chance to try the springs this afternoon if the weather holds 😁 will let you know if I do.

Cheers John

Just went for a short spin, car definately feels better, (if I rember right as it’s been 4 months since I could last drive it ). No wallow, and a compliment comfortable back end. New shocks at both ends should make it nicer still. I remember new shocks transformed my Lotus Elise.

Thank you for your first impression, John. I feel like you with the cold turkey, since the end of March my Morgan is in the workshop, after I had made acquaintance with a deer.
A long wait for the new wing, then a long time of preparation to avoid problems with the correct color adjustment, etc.) But on this occasion the 4 seater leaf springs are now also installed.

I will contact my workshop on Monday and tell you exactly which shock absorbers I have. At first I thought I bought them from Mulfab because I also bought other things there, but I didn't find an invoice and now I remember that my workshop ordered the dampers there.

I can’t imagine hitting a Deer in a Morgan, that would have been scary.
I hope your repairs move along swiftly so you can get out and try the new springs too.
My abscence from driving was due to two loads of back surgery, so it was very nice to finally have a drive of the Morgan again. My main issue now is finding ways to get in and out without twisting or bending. 1st world problems ehh wine

Is this a powerful Morgan thing? I’ve always assumed my completely standard (GDi) Plus 4 goes how it goes because it’s a Morgan. I can slide the rear end sideways if I want to and when I had to do an emergency brake whilst accelerating hard out of a roundabout, found everything really controllable. I’m probably working within the car’s limitations though rather than thinking about what it could be like. I’m just going to go for a spin and have a little think!
