I want to make up a radio blanking plate to match the dashboard - 2009 Aero 8. Anyone know the source? I've tried the factory twice and dealers, all drawn a blank. I've found specialist engine turners but their products don't match.

Maybe you can make one from wood, the same as the top of the dashboard?

A few suggestions.

Ask the factory for the cut out parts that get left behind. Assuming you can get the factory to respond.

Maybe last resort is to fill the slot with something that does not match the wood or metal finish. A single slot fill in that can be used to hold the phone (until you hit the loud pedal?

My Aero was an '09 car and had a dash panel that was engine-turned alloy with a plasticised laminate/film surface finish to darken it. I often wondered whether you could peel the film layer off to get a bright metal finish - which I would have preferred (and which you may find easier to match).

Here's a left-field suggestion. In the early 90s I used to fit a black plastic radio blanking plate to my 'tuned' cars with a cut-out for 3x 52mm instrument dials. Since the digital toggle-through menu LCD display on an Aero is a pain, what about some analogue dials?

You could DIY it with a milling machine.

Measure the steps in the fish scales, measure the radius (or diameter) of circle required
step left to right polishing complete circles
step down one radius distance
step across one radius
then step left to right polishing complete circles (this will hide the original lower have of the preceding row.

Repeat this process for the area of plate you need.

Stain to match then seal.

Or you could scan the finish (or take hires photo with measure for scale in shot) print 1:1 - bond to blanking plate seal surface.

You need to search for fish scale polished effect.

Or go to a water transfer place they could capture you dash reproduce it and coat your plate.

Worst case go to a local car wrapping place and ask them if they can do an almost opaque finish on it using car body wrap?

The guy that makes the Pemberton 3 wheeler with the the new Guzzi engine does the machined dash. I expect he could run up an off cut to suit.

Capt,

Try Cain at Wolf Performance, he makes engine turned finish dash inserts, in both Alloy and Stainless Steel

I fear it will be pretty difficult to match the rest of the dash. Make a leather cover matching the seats and put these on top

Ps or buy a Becker Mexico and never switch it on. It looks nice laugh2
