This is not my normal sort of post but I've just opened a new bottle of Laphroaig Whisky and something I read on the outer container reminded me of my blossoming relationship with my 4/4.

"Laphroaig (La-froyg) single malt Scotch whisky has always kept itself a bit remote like the islanders of Islay themselves.
A touch aloof at first, but make the effort, broach acquaintance, and you'll have a warm and genuine friend for life"

It also says,

"Dividing opinion since 1815"

Substitute 1936 for 1815 and we have the Morgan 4/4.

And I haven't touched a drop yet so Lord knows what sort of drivel I'll come up with later.

Tried it a few times in the old days but never liked the tar / smoke taste. Trads are much easier to like.

Hope you enjoy it Bob. Like Howard I'm not a massive fan of the Islay malts, more of a Speyside man myself. Mind you, the Lowland malts are also pretty good, and Old Pulteney is a firm favourite.

Hi Everyone,

Lovely island and I had the pleasure of "holidaying" there in a previous life.

Amazing that the eight distilleries each produce malts tasting so different (yes, I did have my share!) and I have a preference for Bunnahabain, so delicate in comparison to Laphroaig.

Being a salmon angler I visit Scotland frequently, and frequently the rivers are too low/high/should have been here last week etc. The result is that I have visited just about every distillery on offer whilst awaiting conditions to change. Ah well, could be worse.

Regards

Geoff

Had a bottle of Laphroaig given to me, sorry to say was very unimpressed. Was going to take it to the the local whisky store (let them taste it)to see if it was off. I prefer an Irish triple distilled. leaning towards the Quiet Man or Writers Tears.A Jamisons is nice as a everyday nip though

If it's a single malt, I'll enjoy drinking it.

There are a couple of single malts I like.
Penderyn Madeira matured( Welsh whisky)
Highland Park...Orkney and been to the distillery..fab peat smell in there and peaty taste.
I have bottles that are an occasional treat.
There is an off license in Cross Hands not far away who specialises in whisky. He can help find your preferred ones. Haven’t been there yet......limited opening hours that haven’t suited me in passing.

I like the Isley malts, in fact I’m still trying to find one I don’t from anywhere in Scotland!
I’ll keep trying.
