When I had my 4/4 it was standard. It would zip along quite merrily and on the odd occasion when it was a bumpy country road it would buck up in the air if I hit any bumps, and when it came down there was a moment or two when I was never exactly sure which way it would twitch. All part of the fun of owning a newish 'vintage' car that employs cart springs etc.
I just used to make allowances for it and not bother, it wasn't anything drastic, just an awareness that it wasn't a modern car. However, it was something that was part of the performance parameters, and something to bear in mind when pressing on or playing at being Fangio.
All was well until Cain from Wolf Performance lent me his car.. What a difference..! No eery feelings, no queasiness, just...normal I guess. Cain's Cafe Racer is still on leaf springs, but fitted with a Panhard rod, and I was amazed at the difference.
It's one of those things that no-one maybe 'needs' but it was a very noticeable difference in control, and that for me proved it.
Ultimately of course, the 4/4 was swapped out for my Brooklands, which had been fitted with the full five link rear setup, a completely different ball game.
If the question was which item would I have chosen to improve the handling, I'd have no hesitation in starting with a Panhard rod. Hi again SBM. But would you recommend the 5L setup on all classic mogs?

Not sure about the Plus 4 yet.......... Dave, you just answered my question to SBM but can someone who has fitted the 5L setup to a Plus 4 please give us all some feedback. Is there anyone out there willing to allow a test drive?

In a heartbeat. It's just 'right', but I know Cain has a mission in life to make leaf springs feel the same and at a much lower cost. The 5L isn't a cheap conversion, but I would budget for it even if it wasn't fitted when I bought it..

Williams used to have a car with it fitted that was used as a demo, not sure if they still have. That was a GDI +4.

Ken, my comment was only about a Panhard rod, not the full five link.

I went out in the original prototype Suplex 5 link Plus4 driven by Peter Ballard. He didn’t hand back on some very demanding and bumpy roads and I was very impressed. In those days I was quite anti anything that changed the old fashioned Morgan set up. It wasn’t until following SBM in his newly acquired 5 link fitted Brooklands Roadster across the Isle of Man, struggling with the sagging springs of my Roadster, that I realised what I was missing. And really, the 5 link set up is still old technology. Taking into account the cost of replacing my leaf springs, the extra cost of the SSL kit wasn’t too bad and it has transformed the ride and handling of Nero. Highlighted the crap front end but that’s another story......🙄
Taking Nero up Prescott at TOTH really brought home the improvement.

Thanks to all for interest and advice. Seems to be P-rod, BRS and shocks, in that sucsession. Lady M has only 28 000 km, so I believe the shocks cannot be worn out, although I suppose the AVOs are better than the present Sachs. But first of all - round convex mirrors. Safety first....

I have the full Supplex(SSL) setup on my 2009 Plus4. The front is,in my view, essential - sorts out the “nodding dog” and stops any deviating from intended route on bumpy corners. The back is a marked improvement from a comfort point of view, but not the massive improvement I was hoping for. That said it is an improvement from a handling point of view too - it’s just that I’m not a good enough pilot to exploit it fully!!!! All in all the best improvement was the BRS and the front SSL - I would not have a trad Morgan without them
If you fancy a few days in Ireland, you are welcome to try out my car!
Cheers!
