Thanks for replies. It was some consulation that on my Roadster at least the bonnet did not go flying over my head but just waved gently up and down, suggesting tbe louvres equalise wind pressure on upper and lower surfaces.
All four springs on the releases are very strong. I'm sure its just a catch adjustment issue which will be sorted today.
I did check on a variety of Classics parked outside the dealers a couple of weeks ago and three out of five had some play in the front bonnet fixing on one side or the other, similar to that on mine!
I note that relatively few Classics have a bonnet strap as new or fitted later. Shied away from ordering one on new build due to potential scuffing of bonnet paint not to mention being a little too retro for me. How bad is the scuffing issue?

Fit some paint protection film under the strap otherwise it will eventually show fine scratches.

In this windy weather the extra catches on the P4SS give extra security and peace of mind !!!

Mine has front catches that require a real shove to release, the rears are a bit easier.
I am no lover of bonnet straps, but the P4SS turn buckles are rather attractive. I wonder if one could buy them and retro-fit?
Other options are Dzus, Camloc and Airloc fasteners: all were first used on aircraft to secure cowlings and other often removed panels. Some even require a key to open them, adding some security.

I have had the bonnet strap since new Richard and no visable issues...too my eyes anyway. Mine is a single pearl paint so possibly tougher than a flat paint. As DaveW said some film would work on the bonnet. My fleece (wool?) Under the strap is still soft.

I have no light scratches either, I think if it’s an every driver in all weathers the belt can attract grit...I have a small piece of PPF under the buckle part only
