Smacks of venture capital wanting out when the market is high. AM have done well for a couple of years but these are the first 2 years in which they have made a profit in recent memory. They are into building a new plants where there are no car making skills and miles away from their existing kit. All in all it looks like a job half done to me, and that a great pity.
There is no reason why we cant build a british ferrari from either Aston or McLaren except that we run our businesses on the basis of financial engineering. No long term stable ownership
I hope, I really do hope, that I am wrong.

I suspect that if AM were based in Germany they would get long term backing from the banks which would give them the stable financial platform that they need. Quarterly reporting to the stock market who just expect every quarter to be better than the last is not going to be an easy ride.

Aston Martin are reportedly intending to manufacture submarines as well as cars. Raising capital for a sinking fund no doubt

Well they are owned by the Italian private equity company Investindustrial. http://www.investindustrial.com/Given the Italian market knowledge of high value products they could see what they had in brand equity there. I would say it had been improving but still underperforming relative to the market opportunity for some time. They put money in and set the foundations for the next stage in Aston's fractured journey. I don't see this as a bad thing. An IPO is just another funding moment but from a different pool.
Everyone loves a Morgan. Even me, unless it's broken again.
