In a corner, the lateral forces will make the chassis move sideways relative to the rear axle - due to the flex of the leaf springs. Up to a certain point, the tyres maintain their grip, but with uneven tarmac, in the wet or simply because of excessive forces, the grip might be lost for i microsecond. The axle then moves laterally and re-obtains a neutral position relative to the chassis, which then again moves lateral relative to the axle and so forth. Thus an undesired stepwise lateral movement of the rear of the car, which the Panhard rod is meant to prevent. Got it right, or will somebody care to correct me?

Yes it stops lateral movement. Cheap & very effective on a Morgan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panhard_rod

An equally effective but even cheaper way is to bolt nylatron blocks between the springs and chassis.

Interesting what Wikipedia has to say on Panhard Rods:
“This arrangement is not usually used with a leaf spring suspension, where the springs themselves supply enough lateral rigidity, but only with coil spring suspensions.”
So it must be true!

The nylatron block modification sounds interesting, are there any details on here regarding this pleas?

My leaf sprung Jensen CV8 had a panhard rod, oh and 330 bhp!

So it must be true! Obviously there is far less resistance to lateral movement in a coil spring than in a leaf spring but that does not mean there is no lateral movement with leaf springs. They will twist and with the underslung chassis of a Morgan, they will twist more when the car hit a bump and the suspension is loaded.

I wonder also if there is a parallel need for panhard rod with limited slip diffs, especially as dragsters sometimes use them. Both my CV8 and Roadster had/have the latter.

They also stop your propshaft from hitting the side of the transmission tunnel with a loud thump when taking the long left-hander up Shelsey.
