Got the Roadster out of the garage today to go for a tootle while the sun was shining.
It was ticking over on the drive when SWMBO asked me to fill the mower with petrol so that she could mow the lawns.
After following orders I returned to the car, put the key in and nothing.
Dash lights come on but engine doesn't turn, battery tester shows 90-100% (was on trickle charger), tried a Roypow jump starter anyway but no difference.
The only thing that I could see was that the immobiliser light that flashes slowly when parked was flashing rapidly when the ignition is turned on, tried my spare key but just the same.
Anyone had this problem before?

Not had that but try disconnecting the battery?

It sounds like an immobiliser issue maybe. Check that the widget is still in the key.

Just an idea... I had a 2008 Roadster once. There was a plastic ring around the ignition switch. This ring was a component of the immobilizer. It was not stable, but could be moved back and forth. I think it had a function to the inductive ignition key.

If this is the case with your car, then try moving or turning this ring back and forth, just a little bit. And try to start in between. This had the effect that the car could start again immediately.

Just tried the battery disconnect, no difference.
I assume there is a capacitor somewhere, had to switch
the ignition on to drain power before the immobiliser
light would die.
Is the immobiliser behind the dash?

Will give that a go tomorrow Heinz, the ring around
the ignition switch is a little loose, I thought that
the first owner had applied a dab of epoxy to hold it
in place.
Maybe something to do with the receiver?

I suspect there is a coil in the ring. It must be precisely aligned with the key. I'm 90% sure that this is the reason for it not starting. It was obviously normal for this ring to move. Maybe even for final alignment after installation.

Have you tried your spare key?

My key has a visible whitish lump protruding from it. If this is missing and there is a hole in the key then you need to get on your hands and knees and find the transducer. Then use the spare.

The ring around the keyhole is quite loose and wobbly on mine it appears to make little difference to its connectivity.

More like a key to be the key transducer.
