I have just returned from a short trip to cyprus. Beautiful ocean sites, very kind and helpful people there, a rich history, good meals. i enjoyed my stay there very much, and played some minutes with the idea, if cyprus could be a good place to spent some time after my retirement (i am 56, but i already can make plans ...) But, as an enthusiastic morganeer, i made my opinion that cyprus will not fit my morgan 4/4. Here are my pros and cons, why: Pros: 1. Cheap tax for cars with max 1.6 litre motor 2. Gasoline is a little bit cheaper than in germany 3. There is a very enthusiastic classic car community
Cons: 1. It is difficult and expensive to move your car to cyprus (from germany it will take more than a week by ship) 2. Driving on the wrong side of the street (would not concern british drivers) 3. Bad roads, many holes 4. You can not drive with roof open because it is too hot (except early morning hours) 5. You can not drive with roof closed because it is to hot. 6. While parking you have to close roof and mount side screens because of the street cats that will otherwise enter your car for several unpleasant cat-ish purposes 7. It is difficult to find a house with a closed garage (to protect the car against cat-napping during the night)
So, my dreams of morganic retirement in cyprus are done. But what do you think? Did you drive your morgan in cyprus? What were your experiences?

I feel the compromise would be worth it for the lifestyle it provides. An often overlooked place which is lovely.

Interesting question. Pros: 1. All year round driving with longer days in winter than we have further north 2. No salt on roads 3. Drier climate Cons: 1.Lots of dust that will find its way into everything unless whole car kept covered 2.As you say, lots of cats but a tonneau cover as suggested should keep them at bay. It looks like the pros outweigh the cons! However I think that getting it there and back might be the biggest issue. There must be someone on this site who has tried it?

To solve cat problem, just leave a dog in charge of the car!

Hi I know you are in Germany. For the Greek side of Cyprus there are options to ship from UK by container on a weekly basis. I would guess there are similar options from Northern Germany. Temporary import is for max 6 months. However, for permanent import into Cyprus there is a CO2 test. You would need to check if a 4/4 would pass the test. I am fairly sure I have read in the past in Miscellany about a Morgan owner in Cyprus. Check with Gill Bevan and Machiel Kalf. I have driven in Cyprus, but not my Morgan, it's no different to the climates in southern Spain, Greece or southern USA states where I have driven a morgan in 40C + temperatures. Try a bimini hood. Don't give up the idea.

I understand the word tonneau translates to hammock in cat language.
