I agree with 4 and 5. People here who dont own convertibles often insist that the UK climate is unsuitable - too much rain etc. The reverse is the case. Because the UK rarely gets really cold or really hot its a good climate for soft tops.

Went to le Mans Classic this year and in 35C the soft top was up and the aircon on almost all the time.

When I worked for Prudential in the 90’s one lucky agent had the best “Man From The Pru” posting in the company.

His job was to service the troops posted to Cyprus, so every month a Sergeant Major would line up the new squadies and tell them “this nice man has come all the way from England to provide you with an insurance policy, so sign his form where instructed”.

Job done and commission earned, he would then spend the rest of the month pottering about the island in his SL Merc until the next postings arrived.

@ rob: jep, i forgot the dust-thing. it creeps everywhere. all cars look like the same color.

@peter: i was told (do not know if this is really true) that you are treated as an illegal immigrant if entering the european part in the south over the northern turkish occupied area.

@ stephen: i did not know that there is a bimini hood or a morgan. i knew this only for boats. interesting idea. do you know photos of that?

i have already put the hood on and did not close the rear end, so that it kept open while driving. worked very well when driving on an autobahn for two hours always northways in shiny sunlight at 30 degrees celsius. would work well on cyprus either, i guess, if you can drive fast enough to get a little bit air cooling.

Spent some time around 1990 in Malta and lasting memory was all the dust (and the huge potholes) which settled on the cars. Remember seeing an MG TF parked up on the street (lots of what could be considered classic cars to be seen) which had about 1/2 inch of dust all over it. Probably hadn’t moved for some time. It would frustrate me to have to clean off the dust every time my car ventured out. It gets everywhere as well.
