I'm not a fan of Mercedes at all, but their cars from that era were amazing and I would have that in an instant if it wasn't barmy money.............and I had the space etcetc

Beautiful looking car. Great Italian parking! Have to agree with most of the sentiments expressed here regarding modern trends in car design - and I really don’t like “harking back” to a “better” time but I really struggle to think of a modern car I like looking at. Perhaps RR Evoque, MX-5, and Audi TT?

Mercedes still have it - these will have legs and stand the test of time.

The Italians can still turn out some nice-looking cars at all price points:

Fiat 500

Alfa Giulietta

Maserati

To me that's the real SL. Some 40 years ago there was one for sale in the village next to ours. The only problem was the same as it is now: money. The asking price was 650,000 Belgian Francs (around 16,000.00 euros) and at that time I earned about 8,000 Belgian Francs a month. crazy3

Agree with the 500 and the Alfa. Jury’s out on the Maserati.

Yes, I find that the gaping radiator grill on the Maserati and a number of other cars tends to make them look like bottom feeding fish. What I always find odd is the way car designers all use similar design cues at any one time but then strive to be different and, almost impossibly, individual. Even the latest Volvos have large radiator grilles with concave vertical bars a la the Maserati. It is a dichotomy prevalent in all areas of design I suppose and probably always has been, particularly in the car industry. Makes the Morgan even more interesting though in my view as it doesn't have to follow the fashion cues slavishly.
