B827 Comrie to Braco one of my regulars on way to or from Glen Lyon or Loch Tay / Earn area. Thirty minutes from home. It's a truly superb drive, it must be fantastic to have such a great road on your doorstep. 12 miles and I don't think there's a straight longer than a couple of hundred yards. Utter bliss.

Went down to Somerset for a Swanmog long weekend event. A little over 600 miles of smiles & a murder mystery on a steam train.
Great fun.

My next trip will be when it rains.
I have modified my Simmonds mirror by reversing the top bracket, taking it off the screen frame, turning it upside down, double sided tape to fix to the screen.
I hope the hood seats better on the frame as it leaked a few drips there.

This morning I had to go to Draguignan to deliver some papers to my notaire and I decided to go in the Morgan and then have a drive up into the mountains, so that was two outings on successive days.
At the roundabout outside the Sous-Préfecture there was a swarm of police and I was pulled over for a routine check. As I handed over my documents, I guessed correctly what would happen next. The surly flic asked what was the year of manufacture and when I replied 2015 he said that in that case it did not qualify as a ”voiture de collection” and therefore the silver-on-black number plates were not legal. I gave him my best puzzled stare and said that I did not know the definition of that expression.
Surly flic then went to consult my case with his colleagues, including a young one who was tapping stuff into a laptop. For a couple of minutes, resigned to having to change to boring modern plates (I have a pair ready) I was wondering how much the fine would be. Then the surly flic handed me back my papers, said that everything was in order and that I was free to move on. He even stood in the middle the road and stopped the traffic to let me out. Evidently, as I had not said anything to annoy them, they had decided that it was not worth the hassle to take it any further. Ha ha.

I've always had a great response from the French Police/Gendarmerie. Not that I've had much contact with them, I tend to behave myself these days.

Would have been an enjoyable 140 mile drive back from Tamworth but for this issue. It did serve to demonstrate how stable Morton is at speed in strong crosswinds though

On a car tour back in 2014 we were stopped for fuel in south eastern France near Italian border. 8 cars. We were getting some grief from the local Gendarmerie and when the Chef de Police walked over (badge on lapel) one of my friends in perfect French asked why the cook was getting involved in the discussions. Didn't go down very well.

Why wind up the police/gendarmes/ carabinieri etc?
It can change a mild reprimand into a costly incident.
When I was in our Ops room I had a call from a chap wanting to complain about the attitude of 2 officers.
They had pulled him over for speeding but he became argumentative. As a result they checked his details, car etc and he ended up with 3 offences. He was whinging to me about them.
I asked him if he had been speeding, bad lights.
Yes.
Why argue with them then? They were only going to give you a reprimand and tell you to slow down. Instead you pissed them off and they you now have 3 tickets instead of none. Speeding, defective light, only one brake light. Why not take the reprimand on th3 chin and suck it up? What makes you think you are above that?
He eventually agreed and went on his way.
