Does anybody have an idea as the best source for a silencer (preferably SS) for a TR3 engined +4? Its got the Derrington manifold with a bit of 'flexi' down-pipe joining onto a cherry bomb at the moment and sounds like the proverbial tractor engine that it came from! Oh and it comes out at the side at the other end. Thanks in advance.

I used to use an early +8 silencer on my TR +4 back in the day. This gave a a nice deep melodious sound on idle , rising to a nice scream at 4,000 rpm.

Thsi was the large oval shaped unit. It bolted up directly on the bottom of the Y piece of the manifold, and like you I used a side exit exhaust at the back

Nowadays there are probably better alternatives available from any number of sources. As you are near Bristol I would start with a call to Williams near Chipping Sodbury.

Hotwells these people are at Cullompton and understand Morgan's and will make anything and are competitively priced, a couple of TMers have used them. They need to have the car to ensure they get it right they are that kind of company.

You could try these just down the M4 from you. They made a custom stainless exhaust for my 4/4 a couple of years back and were brilliant to deal with.

These people make a good range of stainless silencers at a reasonable price. If you are Ok with a side exit at the rear of the silencer, they also do a range of angled bends at various degrees.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/High-Grade-Stainless-Silencer-Exhaust-Box-4-5-6-Body-1-75-2-2-25-2-5-3-Inlet/352212260695?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=621639593474&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

If however you want an exit pipe that runs from the silencer to the rear of the car it requires a bespoke pipe as it has to run close to the rear tyre without hitting it or the chassis.

Other sources are Melvyn Rutter (excellent service - no connection other than being a satisfied customer) and P D Gough from whom I bought a silencer and rear pipe for my '54 Plus 4 in 2009. Just looked up the price: £322, argh!
