Can anyone please let me know which clutch I need for a 4/4 CVH.
Is it an engine out job or can it be done with the engine in?
I have searched the forum but cant find anything - hope someone can steer me in the right direction. Thanks,

I've never done one but just looking at the job I'd say disconnect prop shaft , drop gearbox, looks a simple job ??
I don't know what the code for the clutch is but it's Ford , it's nothing special. Someone will be along with the spec soon
good luck

Arwyn will soon be along to give you the benefit of his vast experience.

I've never done one so won't advise you.

Thank you +8Rich!

Cowl off and engine out is the easiest way I know of.

Unless you go for some radical surgery on the bulkhead, there's no way of getting the gearbox out from inside the car.

Managed to get a decent clutch kit from my local motor factors for the last one I did. Borg & Beck I think

Thanks Arwyn that makes sence and will save time trying to do it the normal way.

If anyone has the clutch part numbers that will help. The trouble now will be the ‘while the engine is out might as well just’!

With the engine out and some extra room to work at the job, I'd give some thought to changing the cam belt and tensioner if it's not been done recently and if you are changing it, then change the water pump as well.

The CVH 4/4 clutch is a standard 2.0l pinto unit.

The flywheel is quite interesting - drilled for a CVH crank in the centre and then for a Pinto Clutch on the outer edge.

I did wonder if this was possibly off a 1.8 CVH engine.

It’s a really heavy Flywheel and if you are changing the clutch I thoroughly recommend you taking out the Flywheel at the same time.

TTV Racing can re-drill a Zetec E to Type 9 lightweight flywheel - it will be like a whole new car - like someone has sneaked in and stuffed a few extra horses under the bonnet!!!

Thanks cerealsurfer, thats perfect!
Trouble is now that for just a slightly slipping clutch I will be doing the clutch and as I have to have the engine out, I might as well change the flywheel, water pump, timing belt and tensioner! Oh well, might as well shove a fast road cam in as well!
