Firstly, apologies as I'm sure this subject has been raised before, but for the life of me I can't find the right thread
PROBLEM. I have just replaced the original radiator on my 1967 TR4a engined Plus 4 DHC with a new aluminium one from Mulfab and my thick fan belt and pulleys with the newer thin version. There is insufficient room on the engine side for the old cooling fan and also no attachment points on the water pump pulley, so the obvious answer would seem to be a "Pusher" type electric fan in front of the radiator.
Has anyone done this, if so, what fan did you use and have you had any adverse effects?
Many thanks in advance Suggest You look at installing a Honda thin fan with shroud on the inside of Your radiator. You do this by extending the rad perches and moving the rad forward. Yes I use a SPAL fan in front of My +8 Radiator. It works OK at slow speed (In traffic) but at 70 MPH pulling a long hill My +8 heats up. I must slow down to about 50 MPH to cure this. My theory is the Spal Fan in front acts like a air blocker at speed.

I have ducting from the grill right up to the front of the radiator so all air passing through the grill must pass through the radiator. A build-up of air pressure within the engine compartment could be a problem especially on my DHC as it has no vents on the bonnet top

Read Dwight Smith article on GOMOG.

They do an inline range to suit various hose diameters and they can be set to whatever temperature you choose.

Have a look at the Revotec range of electronic fan controllers from Merlin Motorsport.
They do an inline range to suit various hose diameters and they can be set to whatever temperature you choose. The Flex A Lite controller is a bulb and a wire that goes under the hose clamp into the hose. Not good. Hard to seal. Also if You live in the UK use a UK product if at all possible.

UPDATE ON MY FAN SAGA. Since fitting my new Ali rad I have now installed a 14" Spal electric pusher fan in the inlet trunking of my Plus 4. I also took the opportunity to replace all of the hoses with new silicon ones, flush the cooling system and refill with Evans Waterless Coolant. Job eventually finished lunchtime yesterday so decided a test drive was in order whilst the weather was being kind. I covered just under 50 miles of town, country and duel carriageway driving and provisionally am very happy with the results. I did wonder if the dynamo would cope with the extra load but the amp meter continued to show a charge whilst the fan was running and the indicated water temperature appeared slightly lower than before. There is one aspect I'm not entirely happy with though and that is the fact that the fan sensor is located below the thermostat and therefore triggers the fan before the 'stat opens. I am considering the possibility of moving it to the top radiator hose. Your thought would be appreciated. Thank you
