Good afternoon everyone!

Pootling about on the classifieds various and happened upon this little number for sale in Southampton. The price seems reasonable, and, although impossible to tell from pictures, sounds to be an honest and deserving little motor. What are the collected pearls of wisdom from the forum members?

I think that this was the car which was for sale in the Automart section at this year's Beaulieu Autojumble. Can't remember how much he was asking for it but I remember thinking it was on the steep side.

All I would say is that closer examination would be recommended!

It's been listed for a long time on various websites
when the seller lists rust, micro blister paint work etc etc
you would need to take a close look

Definitely! Remember cars of this age will not have been Cuprisol dipped, will have mild steel wings and inner wing valances, and will have been sprayed wings-on. Rust protection from the factory was practically non-existent when these cars were built.

So unless it's already had a wings-off restoration, or it's never seen rain, I would expect to have to replace a lot of bodywork.

Easiest way to check if it's bad - get underneath it and look under rear of the front wings where they fix to the inner wing valances. This is the favourite spot for the valances to rust and if water has got between bulkhead and valance the bulkhead will have rusted through too.

A car like this can look very nice on the outside but be hiding a multitude of sins.

My impression was that it was past the respray stage!

It was the bit sbout giving it a respray and putting it up for sale at 30,000!

It was indeed, the window price then was £20K. It needs to be a lot cheaper to sell, IMHO.

I'd walk a long way away from this unless it was 8-10k subject to condition, bulkhead and wood rotted I would think is highly likely.

Really is a case of buyer beware then! As been said been for sale for a while - maybe its been looked already by potential buyers and rejected? Re-spray then £30K - now that is dreaming.....

However well worth a poke about and good look at - you never know until you do.

I would think that 8-10K is way above its worth. It was MOT'd in 2014 at 54672 miles, and then did a mighty 8 miles before the next MOT in June 2018. Standing for four years doing nothing is not good for Morgans. Buying it (at almost any price) could result in a decent profit on resale - but equally spending a few quid on National Lottery tickets could do the same - and both with the same chance of success!
