All of us are aware by now, of certain cheepskate components of the classic models that sooner or later fail. A recent post bemoans a steering rack gaiter failure at only 3 years, (my one failed after 8 years). "Free Extras" with the +4 110 anniversary model is a marketing gimmick, no more than that. If those freebies simply included the fitting of good quality rack gaiters, sliding pillar gaiters, neoprene tubing wiper-wash tubes, quality shocks, alloy radiator, then the longevity and reliability would be immediately improved. Each of those items had to be replaced on my 2008 4/4. These are essential components that would not cost the MMC too much to upgrade. They only involve substitution and a small cost adjustment. Call it the "Fully Sorted 110" if you like. Forget branded wash bags, bicycles, umbrellas, tea shirts, flying jackets, watches, etc.

I also agree , but I am afraid that is not "the MMC way" . Their customers have long since provided a lot of the product development.
The cost of poor quality control is enormous, as most of us from a manufacturing background can confirm, but I just don't think they have anyone with the required external experience at a sufficiently high level to get listened to.
Quality requires a total commitment from the CEO to the shop floor, dealers and everyone involved in the product. It is almost a philosophy.

I seem to recall reading somewhere a while back that MMC has the biggest profit margin percentage per car , of all manufacturers!

Cheers Rather begs the question David - After you'd spent all that time and money getting the first one to your satisfaction, why didn't you just keep it? *Note to Pedants: Yes, I know that's not actually what the phrase 'Begging the question' is supposed to mean, but as the rest of the world now uses it this way I thought I'd admit defeat and join in! My Philosophy professor would be turning in his grave. If he were dead, that is. Which he isn't. And that is really what 'Beggging the question' means. If the debate was about whether there is life after death. Which it isn't. And anyway there isn't. So he couldn't be. Turning, that is.

Fully agree with your comments. I acquired my trad 6/7 years ago bought new without a ever driven a Morgan or a test drive. It soon become obvious that the build and parts quality was lacking, however I will never sell this car, it is a keeper, they are special. But it concerns me that they have been building the trads for many many years and they don,t improve improve the build quality, the engine bay is littered with sharp burred metal fittings, wires and hoses rub against these. So yes why not include quality components in a std. build. These are not cheap low cost vehicles. Adding bling is not adding quality or value.

I don't disagree with your point, but if your only experience of a Morgan is your own 7 year old car, I would urge you to have a look at some of the older models, then you will truly be able to appreciate just how badly finished they could be! In the last 20 years of so Morgan have improved their build quality by several orders of magnitude. Not to say there isn't room for improvement, of course. Sadly I suspect the majority of new Morgan buyers are always going to be swayed by a bit of bling, I suspect most of them wouldn't appreciate having an aluminium radiator rather than plastic, especially if it was a £500 option or whatever.

There are a few of us about Tim - but have had our current Roadster since new in 2011- which has cost thousands since then - but maybe there is hope for me yet!
