From time to time a thread is needed to articulate complaints. This results in a slightly distorted picture, because many people have had to deal with poor quality here and there. But have so many owners experienced all mistakes, or each only a few of them? And it's natural that once the topic is started, it's posted more and more as if you find out that 100 cars collapsed in one day.
I am aware that this thread is about quality control. It's never a wrong topic, and Morgan should also perhaps take a little more care here so that problems are not systematically bred. In addition, ordinary cars are becoming more and more reliable, and quality demands are rising unnoticed so that the difference to a handmade Morgan could become clearer.
I don't want to gloss over anything, and I see where quality is being cut on the car, but I also have to say that in four years and 56,000 km of ownership I am very satisfied with the reliability.
I had worse fears because I previously sold the Morgans again after two years and didn't know what it would look like after a longer period of time. That turned out to be unfounded.
Apart from the investments in upgrades to the chassis, the exhaust system and the ECU, as well as a prophylactically exchanged radiator - these were voluntary expenses that had nothing to do with reliability except for the radiator - I only had problems with pulsating brake discs and a defective light switch. That's what I'd like to say as a counterbalance, because the complaints told here are certainly sometimes part of the Morgan experience. But in many cases they are probably not the norm for so many faults on all cars altogether. I don't want to ignore the fact that even that can happen.
In the end I would like to say that a Morgan has sometimes to live with profane, sometimes unnecessary but annoying problems, but she creates supernatural moments. And those are timeless, for me at least worth the effort.

I’m struggling to find anything to complain about, but on reflection, the rear view mirror was crap.
I replaced it with a nicer one and I’ve never looked back since.

Good points Heinz. I guess that we will never know how representative of the wider ownership the views and experiences expressed on this Forum are. Perhaps we need to start a thread for those owners who have had no, or few, problems in all their years of ownership to redress the balance!

You arent seriously expecting the same sort of approach to quality from a tiny back street company like MMC and Toyota, one of the worlds biggest car makers?
Why not ? There are companies far smaller than Morgan that have much better practices in place. Many of the issues discussed on TM have little or no cost implication in order to rectify or improve. Exactly. It's about a state of mind and designing (and following) appropriate procedures. There's no investment needed.

Question is “who at the factory is the stumbling block” imho it seems a very stupid attitude as pointed out on here, in most cases the changes are virtually a nil cost option, even a lower cost option.

Could it be Steve Morgan? Read a top gear article this morning claiming him as the boss of Morgan.

Question is “who at the factory is the stumbling block” imho it seems a very stupid attitude as pointed out on here, in most cases the changes are virtually a nil cost option, even a lower cost option. Depends on what we are talking about.....better quality components or better quality build? As far as the latter goes, Morgan have made a lot of effort in installing a QA system over the past few years when I was there. And I believe that in the main, the build quality has improved and become more consistent......for a hand built car. Components is another matter. Replacing the cheap plastic radiator which is probably the main bone of contention, with an alloy one would be at a cost. And just how many fail? Things like better quality washer hoses is a no brainer and I am surprised that they haven’t replaced those years ago. I’m not sure what other components are second rate. Someone mentioned replacing steel fasteners with stainless....that isn’t an industry norm and apart from the odd screw, there shouldn’t be a reason apart from aesthetics.

You Brits and Scottish have fantastic word games, and you also have fun with them.
