TM has history with someone regarding drawings posted on line..they were appropriated off the site, registered elsewhere and much hassle and hurt resulted..

Perhaps you could forward them to anyone interested, maybe..?

Having read Dave W's excellent book I'm inclined to go for the sheet metal version of tool tray. I've seen the drawings of the stepped one discussed here and together with measurements made on my own 5 link Roadster have come up with this modified and slightly simpler version shown below as cardboard mockup.



Please ignore uneven rear flange which is purely due to card size limitations.

There is one less step in my design with two full width troughs, 100 x 40mm and 125 x 95mm deep. Assymmetry in diff housing and top link clearance.

Have just checked with rear on axle stands and fit and clearance is good. I'm guessing I won't need to provide other than vertical clearance (at least 60cm) with 5 link setup.

BTW if you have the factory 5 link system check the rear wiring loom where it passes close to the axle end mounting of offside (r/h) top link. The securing bolt has its threaded end sticking out beyond nut and close enough to trap the wiring loom on mine against the wooden inner wing due to poorly situated cable clips.

As the top link obviously moves in a vertical plane it had chaffed through the loom with copper showing on one of the individual cables! As all lights still working and as a temporary fix, covered damage with insulating tape and moved it upwards by re-locating two cable clips. Dealer will be advised but dissapointing on a new car

that looks smart. The cable bit is scary. Will you try driving with cardboard version in place or bouncing the car up & down to check for witness marks?
The wider shelves would be useful.

Thanks John. Spent enough time on my back under car to be fairly confident dimensions ok although tweaked a few to be sure. Will probably try a local sheet metal fabricater in Norwich and if quote is ok go ahead and have it made in 1.5 or 2mm aluminium.

Didn't have camera with me when cable issue came to light but found this pic of my car whilst in tin shop.



All looks innocent, but add spare wheel, hood, full tank and two occupants and those coils are going to compress. Although you can't see from this angle the protruding bolt is a tad closer than thickness of loom to wooden inner wing.

Was designing one ar the weekend with less folds too Richard. My design is identical to yours almost with two full width depths. It will be easier to make I think

Update on tool tray.

Hereward Sheetmetal in Thetford (01842 754311) have agreed to make this in 2mm aluminium. Should be completed before the end of this month for a quoted £140, which I consider very reasonable.

Will paint underside for protection and add self adhesive neoprene strip for flange seal.

Tool tray for 5 £

I purchased some rests of water resistant plywood, was enough for a new tool tray. Plus few stainless screws, wood glue, rest of felt carpet and clear coat (available from former projects) as well around a half day work. Small adaptations of the battery tray holder and the right brake pipe mounting allowed substantial larger volume.
The pictures are of older date, now the screws are covered by brown velvet fabric tape, which also avoids rattling and rubbing the cover against the tray.
