Hi Bob, why not take your Motorhome to an industrial estate on a sunday morning? Plenty of corners to reverse around, and no traffic. Castle Douglas has a nice municipal site near a lake and a short walk to town. There is an excellent micro brewery in the town.

Good luck with the DVLA Bob. A Taffmogger has a motorhome and tows his Mog on a trailer. Uses the Mog to explore his destinations. Some trips 6 weeks or more. Our local Noggin place has a few hard standings with hookup points, shower block. A good location for exploring West/Mid Wales. Damn good food there too. Thank you. I was thinking of towing the MX5 on a spectacle lift but I need to get used to the motorhome on its own first. Whereabouts is the Noggin place? The Halfway Inn. Nantgaredig. On the A40 between Carmarthen and Llandeilo. http://halfwayinn-carmarthen.co.uk/

As always, when travelling route planning is key. I took my 7mtr Fiat based motorhome to Cumbria this year with my Plus 4 behind it on a trailer. Absolutely no problems (with the actual towing) and well worth the effort for all sorts of reasons.
The best advice I can give is to buy the best motorhome/hgv satnav you can with the latest updates of course. Then back that up with the latest road atlas and o/s maps. Then research on motorhome/caravan forums asking for advice regarding your chosen route and destination. Check the route via Google Earth then ring up the campsite direct and tell them you will be arriving with a motorome and trailer and ask them to advise on the best approach route.
I did all of the above when going to Ravenglass in Cumbria this year only to find that three different satnavs were trying to send me via an inappropriate route and the campsite advice was not entirely accurate. It was a lovely wooded site but that was the problem, too many trees to be able to reverse a trailer properly when it cannot be easily seen through a small motorhome rear window.
Hope I have not put you off, even without a trailer a motorhome is well worth having and in my opinion you live in one of the best countries in the world to enjoy it.

Getting used to a 24' "box" takes a bit of time but with good mirrors you soon get used to it. The Memsahib used to take ours shopping as she could put frozen items in the 'fridge until she got home.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I'm sure he'll have some places he knows.

Simple Bob,
Just click the "Quick Reply" in each post you wish to quote.
In the editing box (will be labelled Quick Reply) you may need to separate the replies - so a "return key" press after
and before a
will allow you to add your comments in between the quoted items. It's a lot easier than it sounds - try it and use the "Preview Reply" button to see how things look. You can also remove parts from the quoted items you don't wish to show again (or are perhaps not relevant to your reply). At the end of practice you don't need to submit your post if you don't wish too.

Make sure you know your campervan height! Bridges and barriers etc Will your motorhome Satnav have a low bridge option to help avoid?
