Another productive morning on Hotmog. Getrag gearbox now out (very quick and easy), and clutch and flywheel removed.

Clutch is tiny at on;y 7 1/4" dia and is a metallic AP Racing unit. Flywheel only weighs just over 6KG, hence big problems trying to use the car on the road. It was track only in this spec.

The gearbox will be replaced by a CR Tremec T5 unit and I'll use an 8KG flywheel with 9 1/2" AP clutch.

I will probably replace the forced induction airbox with a neat pair of Jenvey filters that will sit below the bonnet line and negate the need to cut an opening into the bonnets.

Fascinating to follow a thread that describes a journey from race to road, rather than the more common road to race.

I'm hooked, and look forward to more news as it happens!

Time for a little update.

Been planning, measuring, trying to overcome various problems and planning again. T5 bellhousing fouls the crossmember and so after lots of research and discussions, I need to slice into the base of the new bellhousing slightly. This is common practice on the earlier chassis it seems and is preferable to modifying the chassis to include the later "Dip"..

Took wing off to see if engine mounts were original and that engine had not been lowered or moved back. I think its in its standard position.

Here's what a Class A race car has for cooling oh and also a glimpse of the front suspension set up

Thanks for the update and pictures, that is some radiator and sophisticated suspension going on there.

Not much action on the car this weekend, but lots of planning and measuring. The bell housing for the new T5 box has to be cut and plated to ensure it clears the crossmember, so that is being done now.

In the meantime, here's a pic of Simon's (Sifab) nice handiwork in the shape of my new, completely standard shaped fuel tank. It has a built in "trap door" set up that prevents fuel starvation on long corners.

Will make up a really nice set of brackets to sit the tank on.

The scuttle roll bar is back from the fabricators and having fitted the door plates, I now need to cut the bar to length and splay the legs slightly for a perfect fit.

Cant't wait to get the bell housing in place as that will be a major obstacle over come.

Interesting stuff, but that image hosting site you are using seems to be a bit dodgy, I keep getting adverts for (presumably Russian) "girlfriends" who claim to be from Stroud and all of whom seem to be sporting improbably huge sets of shirt turnips?

I get Asian girls in Bridgnorth when I open it.

It would have to be something special to drive all that way and they're not..
