Went through both battery threads and figured out the options in the US are different than the UK : )

Don't know if anyone has a perspective but was looking a lithium battery. It is a little smaller but seems like it would fit with a little room. Here are the specs

Shorai LFX36L3-BS12 Extreme Rate Lithium Iron Powersports Battery

12 V- Volts
540 CCA- Cold Cranking Amps
36 Ah- Amp Hours
80 + 80 Wh- Watt Hours
24 A Max Charge Rate
Weight: 4.81 lbs/2.19 kg
Case Size 3: 86mm/3.39" x 166mm/6.55" x 155mm/6.1"

Appreciate any thoughts

Other option though more expensive

Ballistic Performance EVO3 EVX30 Battery

The EVO3 EVX30 is designed to be the ultimate lightweight replacement for several conventional OEM batteries like the YIX30L-BS. The YIX30L-BS weighs as much as 22 pounds! While the Ballistic Performance Components EVX30 battery weighs just 4.8 pounds! That’s a 17.2 pound saving for less than $440! You could spend thousands on titanium, carbon fiber and magnesium parts to get that kind of weight savings.

All Ballistic EVO3 batteries are built to be as close the OEM size as possible, while offering multiple power output options and terminal locations. The result is a battery that is easy to install, lighter and more powerful than the stock battery.

Ballistic EVX30L-24 Specs:

Burst Cranking Amps: 720
Dimensions: 6.6" L x 4.74" W x 6.9" H
Weight: 4.8 lbs
Amps/Hours: 13.8 Ahrs
Watts/Hours: 90.72 Whrs

I just installed a new battery: EarthX ETX36D. Almost the same height/width.

Had to fabricate simple L-shaped terminal adapters to avoid straining the wires.

Afaik, EarthX is the only lithium battery with the built in Battery Management processor, which allows safe charging via a normal battery charger.

Highly recommend!

Thanks. I kind of overlooked the earthx guys as their website was a little confusing to me. After a second look, seems promising. I noticed they recommend the ETX900 for big dog bikes with S&S motors. Any thoughts on the ETX36D vs the ETX 900?

From what I understand, ETX900 has redundant controllers built-in to make sure it never fails and they do recommend it for all aviation applications. You cannot go wrong with either. I've used ETX36 in my BMW K1600GTL for 20000+ miles and never had any problem.

Thanks KankeL. I ended up going with the EarthX. They seem to have a very solid reputation and out of all the companies I emailed the only one to email me back. If anyone orders one you can call directly and they will throw in the L bracket for the terminals.

I think my original Banner battery is failing after 6 1/2 years. It failed to start the car, after a charge my Optimate 3 charger was showing a fault. I've topped the cells up & disconnected it & its on charge again showing desulphation . If still faulty I want one that just drops in without any mods. I'm favouring the Exide AGM 13-31, a pity the Varta A14 has wrong terminals & its taller. Had excellent performance from Varta 19 years on a vintage Sunbeam. Will my Optimate 3 charger be OK with AGM batteries? It says it good for GEL, MF & STD , it charges at 0.6A constant current & can be left on float charge but I dont usually. Reading on the Optimate web site it seems MF ( mantenance free) is an alternative term for AGM

After a 23 hour charge the Optimate was showing healthy condition. I reconnected & the car started & I went for a run. There had been rain so no salt on the roads but still a little damp & 6C. I will have to see if it hold the charge.

I had the same issue with mine (Varta) seems to be ok after charge but not efficient the day after.
With A new battery it is ok despite Could weather ( 0 c ) on the coast near st Tropez sunday morning.
