I can see a point in the future that tax on non ev vehicles will be prohibitive and then how will you have freedlm of choice. It has always been the case that choice is a luxury reserved for the rich. As we become poorer, our choices become fewer. Government policy reflects the wishes of society, and the 'polluter pays' principle reflects the prevailing mood that in general, people should not continue to pollute our environment - hence the tax restricting your choice. Seems fair enough to me. Why do you contend that we will become poorer. That's never happened before, except may be in war time and it's aftermath. Since when does the government's actions reflect the wishes of society - that was debunked with the brexit referendum result. Ev's, as has been discussed, are far from being pollution free. Lets hope that the owners of ev's have to pay for their disposal costs.

It's happening right now. How many young people do you know who are able to afford to buy a house at the age you were when you bought your first property?

It's happening right now. How many young people do you know who are able to afford to buy a house at the age you were when you bought your first property? ...or begin their working lives free from student debt, end their working lives by benefitting from a generous final-salary pension, or inherit anything from parents who will become impoverished through care-home fees? Tim is, sadly, quite correct. There is an inversion in generational wealth. I used to wish I had been born later - now I feel I am at the tail-end of the lucky generations (no FS pension or inheritance, but minimal student debt got me early on the property and stockmarket investment ladder thank God...)

Where have you two been living. When we were young few people went to university, with or without loans. Now every Tom Dick or Harry goes to study some questionably subjects. An iphone costs over £1000 and they sell very well thank you. How many young people go on foreign holidays - not many in my young day.

Their are several guys posting u tube vids about ev cars.
Lemon tea leaf, a Scottish guy who owns a Nissan Leaf mark 2.
Ev opinion a Winchester based guy who owns a mark 1leaf.
Ev express a chap who’s just bought a Hyundai kona
Aaron Russell who also owns a mark 2leaf.
As a Nissan Leaf mark 2 owner since March of this year I find them fascinating.
Lots of good videos to see which if you were thinking of buying a used or new ev are very helpful.
I am getting about 140-150 miles out of a charge from my leaf and as I have solar panels a storage battery and a zappi charger which allows me to charge purely from solar all my motoring is virtually free now.
My wife’s car (a Toyota Auris hybrid) is due for change next September and we’ll be getting another ev, perhaps the kona or a Renault Zoe or even another leaf. Can’t praise them enough, must be saving me a lot of money over the year. Been following a few of the ones you list and more and more each day. Finally got around to having Solar panels fitted today and early next year a Battery fitted, Primarily done to offset the ever escalating household fuel bills but also to preempt an Ev in the future.

Diesel is not a done deal yet.....the curve has bottomed out and people will be buying diesels in big numbers again...trust me I'm not sure.. Autocar reported that in one of their long term text Vauxhalls the particle filter failed and Vauxhall don't didn't automatically consider it a warranty matter, they wanted to understand the use of the car. It was implied that using the car for repeated short journeys would invalidate the warranty. If the DPF is a wear item I can see a lot of unhappy owners. These things are expensive.

Interesting item on Radio 4 news today about hybrid cars...fleets purchased by companies to take advantage of gov grants, cars never plugged in so just using petrol! There's economy for you, dragging around batteries......overall slightly more fuel used than average petrol car!
