I have read your tale and thought it was really emotional!
Next day a very long-time friend wrote me that his wife has cancer....
Yes we have to be lucky but it is sometimes not easy..

Thanks for sharing this highly emotional story, Graham. You have certainly felt that this experience was not only a great day for the little boy, but will also be influential as a valuable and empowering memory for his whole lifetime in a way we all have very specific memories of this childhood time, which then became formative.
You made this lasting memory possible for him and you yourself felt exactly how intense it was for him.
