I had a sad call with the dealer last week and the EV3 is postponed "indefinitely" and my deposit got refunded last week.
I did ask if they knew what would happen to the prototypes though, but they did not know.
I would be happy to take a prototype on without a guarantee as long as I got the specs for the controller, motor and battery fitted so I could find suitable replacements if they failed.
I will try the factory in the new year, I am in the middle of house selling and the moments and need to be sure of finances before I call in case they say "we would be happy for you to take one off our hands!"

It would be a shrewd move should you manage to buy a prototype, a dead cert classic I’d guess.

A couple months ago when I was at the factory and they were still saying it was going to be built. Of course I'm sure my true guy isn't going to be the first person they tell their corporate plans to. I will be happy to take a pair of those front gun Carriage wheels off of their hands!

Don't hold your breath.
MMC will be keen to at least write off the R&D costs of the EV3 project against corporation tax. Normally, a key proviso for such allowances is that all prototypes developed for R&D are never used (ie they are scrapped, or just become museum pieces).

It will not be type approved therefore how can it be sold as it is a prototype.
