Dave - I believe that batteries fitted to new cars are a higher spec than replacements - correct! Batteries are essentially a 'grudge' purchase - nobody wants to buy one, they only need to buy one when they can't get their car started........it's easy to get a cheaper one on the replacement market - as long as it starts the customer is happy. It's a binary result - no sliding scale of performance.
BTW, which part of God's own county are you in? When I lived near Halifax (Midgley)the water was so soft it would chew through central heating boilers like Fat Bastard at a buffet table.

North East of Sheffield, but just too far out to get decent water. We get the opposite problem with the boilers - they fur up. Years ago, the kettle at work in Doncaster looked like a waste tip from a quarry inside. As an aside, the GCR Steam Railway Shed at Mexborough had one of the biggest water softening plants in the Uk as far as I know, and the tower was a local landmark for many years. Sadly all gone now.

Looks like I opened a can of worms again. Didn't realise that battery's were a sore point with drivers? Maybe we should have a Forum called "Can of Worms" full of all the niggley things that irk some? Also learnt a lot about battery's to via trevmar. Had never herd of using rainwater in the radiator or even distilled water. The longest a battery has lasted me is 8 years in my land-rover (original equipment).

You chaps flatter me. After so many years in batteries, I'm convinced batteries ARE cans of worms........
Now, if I can just find that 'file manager' thingy, maybe I can attach that .pdf file from a real battery expert. Maybe I just need to start a new thread?

To post to Morganatica you need a google account - easy to set up. Once you have that, email the owner (known as Hamwich - that's the name of his 4/4 - on here). You'll also find him via MogTalk:- Tim Harris.

Graham - will do, although I was actually referring to the 'file manager' function on this website so I could upload the .pdf here - any suggestions? Seem to be a few options in the 'full reply' toolbar, but not file uploading. Clearly, it's way beyond a mere battery boffin's skill level..........

you could upload to say photo bucket and then post the link in here. this section (maintenance & servicing) doesn't have a file upload link, but classic morgans does. Maybe try uploading a pdf in there?
If you are doing nothing, how do you know when you are finished?

Ah, yes, understand. If you have your own website you could host it there, or at one of the many photo web sites that Peter mentions - if they accept .pdf files, they may not.
I can pass it on to Tim for Morganatica if you wish - I have some other files to upload (when I can find them - fitting Type 9 gearbox to 4 speed Mogs).
Cheers,
