I had a simular issue last year only difference it was my back being the problem. I had to convincr my wife I could drive for 3 hours before I would get the okay to purchase. I explained this to a Morgan garage and they let me have a very nice Plus 4 for the day no charge. I now have a Morgan .

Later Morgans have firmer foam in the seats which “Management” struggles with on a longer journey (Anything over 250 miles in a day).
Limiting your hire day to non stop runs of less than an hour between scenic stops will help. That way she can soak up the adulation the car will get in NT car parks - where you will, of course, ensure you take her to the cafe with the best cream tea.
There are lots of options for fixes - we use an inflatable cushion underneath and have an inflatable lumbar support (Demon Tweaks).

Are there any aids that will help someone who has two replacement hips with access and egress from the car? And about the harsh ride, are there any recommended seat cushions etc that will mean she can enjoy the journey and walk afterwards?
Any help you can give will be appreciated.
I wouldnt worry about the "harsh ride" - it isnt at all bad though you do tend to crash from pothole to pothole. But the two replacement hips rings real alarm bells. I'm 73, reasonably slim gym goer yet I find entrance and exit from a Trad to be an exercise in contortion. My Elise was a bit better and yet I did manage to get a former school gym teacher wedged half way down the seat backrest because he couldnt flex his replacement hip enough to get in. He could still walk, run and dance ( after a fashion ) on it but range of movement was limited. I guess I am saying dont raise your hopes too high and the hire for a day and test is vital. You know best your wife's reaction to draughts / cold/ water leaks / nois / rattles / hair style getting messed up. With my wife - who has sailed with me for 30 years across all sorts of seas in weather ranging from glorious to horrific - I would wait for a really nice day and use the car to take her to a really nice restaurant for lunch. And do the whole thing at a sensible speed. You have just one chance. Even then my SWMBO wouldnt go for a Trad.

Four-seaters are slightly easier to get out of. The front seats are higher than in two-seaters and the rear seats are even higher Four-seaters are even useful for shopping. Harald

Agree with the others, specially about making the total driving experience a positive one. Nice weather, scenic road, not too much traffic around, warm clothes (very important!), not too long drives, leisurely pace, pauses now and then, good lunch. Yes, getting in and out is a bit quirky, but you get used too it. A little trick is too push the seats as far back as possible on beforehand, then put them in the desired position once you are in, and of course reverse when you get out. I do this all the time in spite of being quite agile. The ride is, as others have pointed out not so bad, no need for aditional cushioning for that reason. However, the shape of the seats are a bit "old school" and less comfortable and supportive compared to a modern car. Thus, a little extra lumbar support could be convenient. Good luck!

Harald I didn’t know that Harald, are you sure the front seats are higher than 2 seaters? The wooden formers the seats sit on look the same to me I do think 4 seaters are easier because the front seats go back further The chap who bought my old 2000 4 seater, bought it because it was the only Morgan at Lifes Motors which he could get in and out of

Pour on the charm buy her a box of her favourite sweets or chocolates and pop them on the passenger seat with a card and a kiss . Yes she will know what you are up to but still love it along with helping her with the housework for a week or so before you go and try one . If that does not work shower her with WD40 she will slip in easy . I cannot keep out of the mog mention a ride and she is in in a flash my ton cover has three zips ( not a big job by a trimmer ) clip up her door side and she is as snung as a bug in a rug lift the heater flap on her side and close it on yours then put the heater of full blast. falls asleep before we are out of the garage, its that comfy .

I now have the chance to fulfill my childhood dream of owning a Morgan.
It will probably be after Christmas when I get one but I want to start managing expectations regarding such things as how harsh is the ride and how low down to the ground is the seat.
I will probably hire one for a day (Morgan that is, not wife) but I need the first trip to be a success.
If I leave preparation until the first time my wife climbs in the car she will say it's impossible for her to get in or out because of her arthritis etc and then she will defend that view no matter what I say.
However, if I tell her she probably can't get in, she will be determined to prove me wrong. (You learn these things after 40 years)
But if she is in pain after the first trip she will understably be reluctant to ride in it again.
So, as part of my preparation I would like to know, how high is the Morgan seat off the ground? Are there any aids that will help someone who has two replacement hips with access and egress from the car? And about the harsh ride, are there any recommended seat cushions etc that will mean she can enjoy the journey and walk afterwards?
Any help you can give will be appreciated. Sorry but the ride is very firm and low compared with a modern tin top, however the following suggestions: Slide passenger seat fully back irrespective of how tall she is. Pick a dry day which will allow the roof off (easier for entry/exit) and prepare her well for any damage to hairdo etc. Practice yourself entry and exit and then demonstrate the ease with which it can be done Find some smooth roads with gentle bends for first trip and keep speed down. If there is the slightest possibility of her driving the car, encourage her to have a go early on in ownership. This last one worked for me as my partner was so nervous at the prospect, all other concerns were banished and the experience left a smile on her face.

If you are in the SW then try to hire the Williams +4 that has SSL front and rear suspension. This gives a more compliant ride without taking away the pleasures of driving a Morgan.
As an added bonus you have the whole of the Cotswolds to the North and some superb driving roads. High tea at Highcliffe would be a memorable experience.
Good luck.
PS My wife also has arthritis (but the rheumatoid variety) and she manages to get in and out with the hood up or down. It is just a question of practice and a certain amount of patience. As Robbie said , push the seats right back before starting and be prepared for her to use all sorts of places to steady herself.
