Finally grabbed a few minutes today to take my AH wire wheel down to the local kwik fit for a puncture repair this morning. It has a slow leak that wasn't the valve so it had to be done.
They were certainly kwik.. But only to tell me.."No mate.. We don't do tubed tyre repairs"
I thought they might struggle with a rebalance but it never occurred to me that they couldn't handle a tube!
Neither could they recommend anyone so grumpily I left.
On the way back I called into the little shop that does my MOT's for me to ask there. They were always helpful, offered tea and directed me to Fred. An independent tyre chap I didn't even know existed about a mile away.
"No problem Sir.. Pick it up later" the said Fred said.
Lesson learnt.

Yes Tim, XAS. Worn evenly though which is always a good sign.

Having had a puncture on my 4/4 (tubed tyres); I now carry a spare new tube under my driver’s seat. The spare tubes were supplied by the extremely helpful Longstone Tyres.

About the rate my tyres use to wear back in the late 60s. 😈

I had a spate of punctures when I had tubed wheels on my 4/4, caused by modern tubeless tyres chafing the inner tube. So I bought a set of tubeless wheels from MWS. Not had a problem since.

I have tubeless wires but they still recommend fitting tubes to my tyres, is this just extra insurance i wonder ?
talking of michelins i saw longstone at the NEC and they had what i consider the right tyre for my car, michelin pilot x 16"
but £350 each, a big leap if i dont like the way they drive.

Who is 'they'? The big problem with putting inner tubes into wheels fitted with tubeless tyres is that the inner surfaces of tubeless tyres are not finished smooth, and will abrade the surface of the inner tube.

This can be mitigated by the fitting of heavy duty inner tubes that will resist the abrasion, but still when an inner tube lets go you lose all the air in one go.

If a tubless rim starts leaking around one of the spoke holes, you tend to lose air slowly over a period of time long enough to notice it and do something about it.

There are some tyres still made specially for tubes, but as you have found out from Longstone, they aren't cheap.
