I have always found Izal to be excellent as an alternative to fine emery paper.
That’s a coincidence because I prefer using sandpaper to wipe my arse Funnily enough I researched Izal toilet paper a while ago as I just couldn’t understand why anyone thought it a good idea to use tracing paper to wipe one’s bottom and resented schools and institutions who subjugated us to such horrors Izal was a complete con invented by an entrepeneur who wanted to sell as much stuff as possible impregnated with carbolic acid which was a by product of a nearby coking plant which he was able to get free He advertised it as medicated to help save our bottoms and hands from disease and germs but it was all utterly complete rubbish and public institutions fell for it

RainX and fresh rubber. Don't bother with Morgan blades - get some decent rubber from a motor-factor and cut to length.
Worked a treat for me

I have always found Izal to be excellent as an alternative to fine emery paper.

The smell of that paper and old Red bars of Lifebuoy soap take you back to school quicker than anything, revolting.
The paper made a good kazoo with a comb though.
The soap is good used on wet and dry to prevent it clogging too.

I loved the smell of Wrights Coal Tar Soap.
I spent an "Interesting" 6 months at Coalite chemicals in Bolsover in early 1990. Everywhere stank of TCP and other chemicals distilled out of the tar that came from the Coalite smokeless fuel production. The plant also enjoyed a mini-Seveso incident in 1968, but for whatever reason it never attracted the same publicity as the one in Italy in 1976. In both cases the surrounding area was contaminated with Dioxins.
You can still buy the soap, but the smell is a fragrance, not real coal tar.
Coal tar is toxic, possibly carcinogenic and incredibly long lasting.
It also kills all known germs, dead. Also most invertebrates and in water all fish.

You have me concerned now as when I first met my wife to be she used to have one of these burning overnight in her bedroom to prevent her coughing - it worked too. We subsequently learnt it was induced by the cold Norfolk winters with no central heating back in the late 60's.

Peter, I drove past that site on the way to work and back from 1989 to 2001 on my way to Ashover It's been sold for a huge housing development & they are about 4 or 5 years into the decontam (they call it site remediation now), I remember the huge settling lakes of yuck and would certainly not live in a house built there

I can now report back on the efficacy of this product. The visor on the left was treated with the anti-fog spray, the other was not.
