It's a very well made film. It's a shame that it's only in German. The rebirth of a unique piece from 1937, done in 2014. Look at it and enjoy the pictures of the reconstruction. The body was rebuilt in Holland. They had found an original ladder frame, and old drawings. That was the initial start of the rebuilt.
Dunlop bought the car at that time to test tyres. The car has an ash wood frame and aluminium skin, and it has the bonnet like the Morgan has until today. The shape of the roof reminds me of the Aero5 with hardtop. The weight was huge, 2,4 tons. The top speed 186 km/h.
If you have the time to see the video, enjoy. Of course you can skip the interviews in German and see the final result at the end of the film. I thing it is amazing what they have invested at Mercedes Classic to recreate this one-off car.
Her shape was many years ahead. Her technique also, an in-line eight cylinder with engageable compressor.
And I must say, I like this dashboard and the gauges with their illumination.
May be today you could spend her a nicer front but the overall shape is amazing in my view.
Hmm. Redolent of an uncomfortable era with the likes of Rosemeyer and Stuck making records on the new autobahn in cars of a similar shape and provenance all in the name of ............. But I suppose its all long enough in the past for Mercedes to be comfortable recreating this car.
Looking at that beautiful engine I wonder why having exhaust derived hotspots on the inlet manifold was so popular with early engine designs. Can't help carb icing as its well past that.
Now we strive for efficiences of inlet charge cooling especially with turbo engines.

Outside is a bit Marmite. Front is not my preference and some of the streamlining is good. Interior is great. The front grill spoils it in my eyes. Too domineering with the bulbous bonnet front. Would I turn it down if given it? NO! Awesome car fo4 what it is. One car I can’t criticise is the zferrari Dino........ .but totally different type to the MB.
I agree, the nose is not really a beauty. She was developed in a time which was already a dark time. For this reason Mercedes perhaps would not have made efforts to recreate this car during the last two or three decades even if they had found her ladder frame earlier than in 2011.
I must say, she is not really elegant but her story and at first the effort Mercedes did to make her coming alive again is impressive. At least Mercedes knows how to feed the core value of the brand (regarding the love and effort of the reconstruction but not to reanimate the dark times).
And the main reason why I shared it was the moment when I saw the ash frame in the video
What’s the general feeling? After all the time that has past and the united Europe (well until next March 🙄) we all enjoy, can we talk openly about the dark period? My feeling is that we should be able to...it is history which we cannot ignore and it’s a long time in the past.
When I had a girlfriend in Berlin a few years ago ( a strange time in my life after my wife died...I think I was searching for myself 😳) her grandmother...who has now died, was still an avid supporter of the regime. She and her family had suffered a lot at the final end at the hands of the Russians. We had some interesting discussions and for someone like me who had instilled in them “don’t mention the war” it was quite challenging.
I do apologise if this upsets anyone....it’s easy to talk about things when you are on the winning side but I have no real perception other that one instance of how it is for others.
Oh....and to get back to the topic, I find the styling of the car quite fascinating with a certain sense of arrogance to the front end style.
