When I read the initial question just one song came into my head: Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley. I had grown up with sixties and seventies music and had gravitated towards “heavy rock” (as it was known then) and punk was emerging. I had dismissed Elvis Presley as an old has-been - “parent’s music”. Then for some reason I heard Jailhouse Rock playing somewhere and it just hit me!
I love all types and genres of music and most of my great memories are linked to one piece of music or another. But that song had the most impact on me.

1. Hoochie Coochie Man by Muddy Waters.
I first heard it played when I was 14. (It was the live recording from the 1960 Newport Jazz Festival.)
It triggered a lifetime love of music.
2. Shinkicker by Rory Gallagher.

Sorry never really liked music. Now it's got to the point where we even walk out of restaurants if there is a bloody row playing. You cannot seem to get away from it these days aaaaaarrrgh.
Sir P How boring !!! That's rather judgemental Craig! I know what Sir P means about Restaurant Music. It can be very annoying sometimes.

Muzak can be both irritating or complimentary. Depends on your preferences and mood. I enjoy a wide range from Classical to pop. At home I listen to whatever takes my mood at the time. Currently Dire Straits while typing this.
Last night I had ZzTop going.
Last week I had Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.
I tend to have a shortlist that gets played more often but sometimes I just trawl the stuff on the PC or discs.
When sospan jnr was away in uni he and his flat mates shared and built up a BIG collection and I have a lot of it saved. The only thing I don’t enjoy is crap Rap.
At some stage I will get my vinyl stuff out again. Mainly 60’s by Beatles, Elvis and others. I have a lot of cassettes tucked away too. I need to get my deck/cassette player running but when.........?

How many of you guys have not discovered Radio Paradise yet? Listener-supported so no adverts, and it plays a fantastic collection of stuff for the likes of us. It does all sorts of bitrates too, so you can have lossless FLAC if you want proper quality or lower bitrates if you have restricted bandwidths.
