Took it to work today, because I also wanted something fixed by the dealer, which is nearby. A short shower of rain/hail on the motorway. A rather refreshing experience, at 7am with this temperature . Everything blown dry again on arrival.

Rev counter is probably a simple electrical connection problem. Had the same on my '76 once. Check the fuel lines for fuel filter (should be under the bonnet close to bulkhead), might be time to replace it. Also, as you are "piling on the miles" since collection keep an eye on coolant temp and level. My water pump failed after a thousand miles or so due to lack of use by previous owner. Yes - the rev counter dial illumination wasn't working either, so I imagine it's an earth that's worked lose or something similar. The carb, fuel pump, lines and filter are new - done less than 500 miles (400 by me!) but I imagine there may be a bit of sediment in the tank that's being dragged through. I'll keep an eye on the filter. Will also keep an eye on the water. I tend to spend my time glued to the dials at the moment but everything seems to be running OK (at the moment!) There's an earth lead on the back of the tacho which, from memory, is secured by a knurled nut. As the light is on a different circuit from the tacho I'd look at this as a prime candidate for both problems.

Bright fresh morning so I freed Tarka from the garage and went for a run to remind me just how wonderful a Morgan on a bright winter morning can be. I know it is winter because the instruments misted up a little!
Filled the tank... I tend to use Tesco 99 Octane, amazed to see it was 2p a litre cheaper than diesel at 127.9p. Then I overheard someone saying that ASDA in Southampton unleaded is 116p/litre!!!
Home as the cloud cover came over, but feeling so much better!

An 8 mile run to the workshop where a team of us restore steam locos. Spent a few hours cleaning parts prior to painting, then the drive back home to have a thorough cleanup. Me, that is, not the car. The loco in question is a 2 ft gauge 0 4 0 that used to work in the Welsh slate mines.

Short early morning drive today in P4SS to Leeds and back.
Journey started at -2 degrees and warmed up to +1 degree.
Nice and warm with heated vest (thanks Peter J) and insulated suit and gloves.
Funny to see commuters looking at the crazy fool inan old car with no roof in the depths of winter !!!!

Nice trip out to the bottle bank turned into a brisk chilly and invigorating round trip to Totnes, readying itself for it's Christmas late night shopping night.
Filled up with fuel 23mpg must be backing off a bit with the damp roads. Every time I get back in and go for a run it reminds me exactly how special these 8's are and how lucky we are that Peter made it happen on his watch.
PeterJ mentioning his misted dials earlier reminds me to say this has never happened to either of my Plus8's a 94 and a 99. The 2009 4/4 Sport was a nightmare in the autumn/spring/winter for misting.

Out early in freezing sunshine, but no salt on the road thank goodness. A bit of greasing at Techniques, too many miles since the last application in September and a check on the non-working tacho. Just a chafed wire. 65 miles.

Short 25 mile run to drop her off to Allon White. Rev counter light decided to start working, but not the counter itself. Rear brake light packed in. Heavy rain all the way, and with a misted screen could barely see anything. Still fun.....

Short drive this morning but not a good one. Went to a funeral of an ex rugby team mate. The weather was terrible and they had to close the road to the crematorium due to flooding. Got through ok but we had to leave by an alternate route. These “events” are becoming more frequent. Dropped the car off and went to the wake in the rugby club. Meeting up with mates and good reminiscences was a nice way to move on. Lots of photos on display....most not embarrassing!
