That’s very neat, simple and well designed Peter would you care to share the dimensions and depths etc? That will be so much easier to make than the complicated design I had been working on. And What model of Morgan do you have it fitted too ?

Cheers John

I have a +4 Duratec MY 2009. I am not able to share the dimensions now. I have to measure the tray and make a drawing. Probably during the weekend.

After a patient wait my tool tray was finally finished last weekend, built very ridgidly in 2mm aluminium and specifically for latest Roadster with 5 link rear suspension.

Local fabricator had underestimated work involved which came as no surprise. He is willing to make more but price will be £220.

Dropped straight into tool tray hole but needed a little tidying of support lips for neater fit. Then spent a while underneath car with suspension loaded to check for clearances - all looked good allowing plenty of suspension movement. I had spec'd on drawing a tolerance of 0 to -2mm for external dimensions and these had generally been adhered to.

Had intended to paint underneath but this task has snowballed into full prep, two coats of etching primer and further two of
Hammerite, black underneath and red on top as tools will be easier to see - its also colour of car wink It will be finished with thin neoprene seal on lips. Will also consider some rubber support pads on top edge of fuel tank if I'm tempted to fully load the tray.

Trial run suggests that jack and handle, MG style pressed steel spinner removal tool recently purchased, and my comprehensive tool roll with full range of spanners, will all fit in lower section.

Will post photo's when fully fitted.

Peter whatever you do please don't put your drawings on here - in the past someone designed a piece of equipment and put the drawings on here and unfortunately another individual stole them and started producing and selling the item without consent. ooo

One of the toughest jobs on a trad, because they all vary slightly, which is why nobody has ever made one commercially.

I've done three and every one was exasperating in different ways.

But for a first timer with a shed, the wooden tray is feasible. My Roadster tray is still intact after nine years!

Many thanks Nick, James and Jon.

Did consider the wood option but not as versatile to work with nor compact as metal version. I wanted a tray that maximized use of limited space available.
