Interesting guys and thank you. Yes I'd seen the Gretna Anvil mascots and discounted it, however as you say is it an abstact/stylised anvil? Weird one, was certain google pics would throw something conclusive up. Cheers.

 I think it may be a Gretna Green car badge. This is the anvil horse brass.

Cheers Dave, even in abstact form and with a ton of artistic license it is just the wrong basic shape for an anvil I reckon. I still lean towards a bridge or pagoda type of form but still stumped haha.
