hi everyone!
my name is charlie and i have joined this club to ask for some advice/help. im afraid i dont own a morgan. my father used to own a plus 8 before i was born. it was his first love, (before his wife!). he had to sell it when my mum was pregnant, she complained she couldn't get into it....pathetic! hehe. he always says how much he misses it. unfortunately, a few years ago, he developed an eye condition that damaged his eyesight so much he lost his licence. he has had a horrible few years fighting his condition, working in the TV industry has made life very stressful for him. i wanted to give him a gift he will never forget. i have done a bit of research into it but i am unsuccessful so far. basically i am looking for a high speed thrill ride in a plus 8, preferably round a race track. obviously he cannot drive it because no track will let him drive a car without a driving licence. what was the perfect thing in my mind is to hire one and drive him through the countryside where he used to drive his, then go onto a track and let a decent driver take him round, then even go a morgan meeting or something! but i think i was punching above my weight there!
so, if anyone can give me any advice on where to go, who to ask, what to do! that would be mostly appreciated.

i want to give my dad something special because i havn't been the easiest son to have and hes been through a lot recently. i love him and i will go to ends of the country to find a day that he will always remember!

thanks
charlie

Welcome, where are you / your dad based in the country as I'm sure this will help with your quest.

Asbo's point is a good starting place. If you can access 'Miscellany' magazine or get the centre info from the MSCC website:

http://www.mscc.uk.com/links.html

this would enable you to heck out possible contacts who might not be too faraway geographically

Yes welcome Charlie

I feel confident as with ASBO that with a little more geographical information someone will be able to assist you in your noble quest. There are some very kind people on this community.

Hey son's were made to give the old man a hard time you know, it toughens them up and keeps them sharp. I did and mine has!

If he is in striking distance of Devon I would love to take him for a run out and lunch on Dartmoor I'm afraid it won't be a V8 but I can guarantee he wouldn't forget the ride.

p.s. I swapped my +8 for a 4/4 Sport in 2009 and other than the sound there is not a lot of difference in the performance provided you keep the revs up (20 extra mpg) - and 100mph in third allegedly. smile
If you get a closer offer or +8 ride even better - Good Luck & New Year to you both.

Added a link for Morgan Sports Car Club events - maybe one near you . http://www.mscc.uk.com/whatson.html

If you don't mind it not being a Plus 8 I might be able to help you with a trip round Castle Combe in a racing 4/4. It's no slouch.....

ah! that would have been a good idea! both me and my dad live in Bisley, Surrey near Guildford.

WOW! both those offers are very generous, i wasn't expecting such kind offers! my dad wants to retire in devon as thats where most of my family are so that sounds like a great idea! castle combe is very tempting aswell! as i said, i really wanted to find a plus 8 (mainly for the sound). hmmmmm, i'll look into the website and see if i can come up with an idea.

thanks for your help! im getting closer to my dream gift for my dad! smile

Bought my son-in-law an experience in an Aero which he thoroughly enjoyed. Judging from their website gallery they look as though they can arrange a +8 drive

Good luck with your search

How deep are your pockets? You could offer to feed and water the TM Surrey Possie for a day your Dad wouldn't forget, but knowing those guys it'll probably work out cheaper to buy yourself the +8

innocent
