The great escape (from bad weather)

Just before Christmas I got tired of the snowy weather and felt I needed a break. A quick plan was sketched to escape from winter frustration: Driving down to the South of Spain in the Morgan, hood down.
The only two fixed points in the planning were the desire to visit the Alhambra in Granada and an invitation for the "Space of Sound" Festival in Madrid. A friend from Germany didn’t needed much convincing to join in and finally arrived early morning on the 26th. We left Zurich around lunchtime.

They say a picture tells more than a 1.000 words. We’ve taken almost 2.000 photos and are still running out of words to describe the joy. I hope you'll like our selection of images (and the little textual extra information).

The admiration for Morgan is generally known to be universal – but the Spaniards have taken it to a totally different level. They got so carried away with enthusiasm that giving thumbs-up was just the least expression of joy.

Nonetheless the car was towed in Granada, but quickly released after the fine of just EUR 90,-- was settled. Others were not so lucky - note the SLR on the compound of the police.

Our visit at the official Morgan dealer in Madrid was dissatisfactory. They’re keeping two green Trads locked away in a dark and uninspiring showroom. The salesperson hardly found it worth noting that we arrived in a Morgan. No wonder they sell far less than 20 cars even in a good year.

Luckily we found someone else in the Motor trade wearing the Morgan name with pride. Those guys had two objects of exposition, despite none of them being a Morgan.

The Plus 4 performed fabulous and finally brought us home safely, never missing a beat.

We bought two leather jackets, 9 shirts, 2 pullovers and 3 pair of shoes - and still managed to squeeze everything into the car. Towards the end of our trip more and more dirty clothes had to be stored away in bags underneath the rear panel – squeezed between the fuel tank and inside the spare wheel, securely held with the central screw holding the spare in place.

I strongly recommend the coastal road between Tossa del Mar and Sant Feliu de Guixols. Our memorable drive can partly be found on youtube:

Beautiful photographs Marian the Black with clear lenses looks very tasteful - the scenery looks well worth a visit too it was clearly a good idea to leave the snow at home.

Happy New Year to you and all fellow Morganeers !

Thanks for the comments.
I never thought the landscape presents itself so diverse in Spain - we had everything from coast roads to a almost desert-like scenery.
Before the Morgan got covered with muck and dirt it was dark brown - not black. The color is better visible in the last photo.

watching the video on utube.
making me dizzy just looking at the bends.
didn't take long to overtake that white car......wow
those 2 black cars slowed you up a bit, good job that you did not meet a motor bike on the first car overtake, really hairy driving, not for me. Over here we have to contend with a Roo on the road around the next corner or the tour de France wannabees in a group of 50?
great video, really enjoyed it mate.

Nice and what a lovely idea for getting away from the winter misery!

Most of my trips are usually done in the summer, and that obviously has it's advantages but the thought of jumping in the car and driving towards the sun with ice and snow on the ground is truly attractive.

Thanks for sharing thumbs

Cheers

Hi Marian & an extraordinary,SUPERBE and -most of all- healthy new (Morgan-)year to you too! wine flyingpig

I savored all your pics - leaving me kind of jealous here crazy2 - but i swear: it´s just because of you morganing in that inspired manner (and not because of all the female attractions you -or was it the Mog?- got! wink )

I wish all fellow Morganeers many happy sunny miles this year! drive

It doesn´t matter how fast it becomes, but how it becomes fast. laugh2
