We could charge Scotland for the use, sell them a narrow corridor to use, get Boris to help with a bridge across the North Sea. A tunnel......

Bob....no offence intended. You can come South any time.

Why would I want to? I'm in God's country.

Given the semi-religious nature of the Church of Scotland I think calling it gods country might be a bit of a stretch

Even the "almost finished" Crossrail is to be delayed until---well, who knows, but it will cost an extra £2 billion and this rail link is really required.
A 20 min reduction in travel time to Brum, why, just improve the existing trains.

Here for a good time not a long time!!

Dad always said that every church is built next to a pub so if you want to repent you can drink until you forget then go in with a clear conscience.

When joining the RAF at a youngish age I was asked what religion I was in case of significant outages. I replied Church of Scotland and he said he would tick atheist.

When God created the heavens and Earth he took 6 days. On the 7th he rested...
On this day off he had a brainwave. He created a land of green pastures, hills, mountains, rivers full of fish, spectacular coastline, full of the best people you could imagine. He named it Wales.
St Peter asked why such a special place for the people there? Surely that is unfair.
No, said God, wait till you see the neighbours I am giving them.

If there really was a commitment to the Northern Powerhouse, they'd have built the HS3 T across east/west first - it would save proportionately more time on a shorter & much slower journey (instead of slicing a marginal saving off an already brisk journey)
