Went to the car meet today and realised from the quick flashing dash lamp that one of my indicators wasn’t working
After investigation when I got home it turns out it’s the front indicator fitting itself not the lamp
I’ve tried lots of fiddles and sprayed it with contact cleaner and cleaned some tarnishing to the inside with cotton wool buds but to no avail
The lamp starts working when I push it in as far as it will go into the fitting but then when I release it to turn it to locate it it stops working and it won’t stay pushed all the way back
Before I spend £30 on a new fitting and an annoying hour fitting it, has anyone had the same issue and is there something that I’ve not thought of to solve the problem?

The fittings are a bit Heath Robinson Stewart. It's a dilemma because a new one might not be much better. Have you tried a new bulb? The prongs will be a bit longer and it might just hold better.

Stewart maybe you can bend the pins slightly on the bulb to get more pressure?
Never tried it myself but if it works when you push it in it does seem to be a physical thing.

I’ve tried three different lamps and they all do the same Work when pushed in firm but as soon as I release them they stop working Bit of a puzzler as I can’t understand why it should just suddenly stop working - there doesn’t seem to be anything broken

I hate to say this..........
But........
A sliver of neoprene down the side of the bulb might hold it......

Is the bulb holder a Lucas? I had similar so took it out,cleaned the inside, pulled the movable base up. The spring behind was a bit short and I managed to stretch it. The bulb was then making good contact and all was ok. From memory the bulb holder code may be L594 and readily available.

If you can prise the insulating plate out of the socket base you will probably find the spring behind it is weak. Be careful how you do it though.
