Its a pernicious habit not just linked to Morgans. Our family Merc is the Panzerwagen. My wife's Smart Roadster is the Rollerskate. My Lotus was Lottie. And yes, the kids and the dog have nicknames too. As does the M-I_L but I wont repeat that one.
I cant help doing it.
There are some things that dont merit names. The F type never got one.

The cars we like have names.... they often take a while to settle down. The BMW 320i M Sport never had a name because I never bonded with the car. The CLC was Silvo because she had no character, but was comfortable and useful.
The C43 Coupe is Marylin, because she is curvaceous loud and sexy...
The M140 is Thumper, after the actress Trina Parkes who gave Bond a good beating in "Diamonds are for Ever.. because like Trina she is black, powerful, agile and strong and could give me a good beating if I am not careful...
The Plus 8 is Tarka after Tarka the Otter because the colour reminds me of a wet otter and she is a lot 'otter (hotter) than all other trad Mogs.

Unromantic but the Kia Sedona is "The Workhorse" and the Aston is "The Beast". Goodness knows what the motorhome will be.

The car I passed my driving test in the 60's had the number HDY 54 it was at this time I spent some time in a cupboard with a German girl named Heidi at a party playing postmans knock so she is called Heidi in her memory!

Yes. The whole think is sickening really. Like being invited to "go for a noggin". However, my Morgan is Possum since its reg number is ... PSM. When one is old one has to make allowances..............
