Both are fantastic fun cars, in my experience the 7 is strapped on and almost worn the driving sensations being raw with sublime steering and that induction roar and devastatingly quick when required! But as others have said, not a car for pottering around in and less fun on our busy roads.

Whereas the Mog (both trad +8 and Aero) are more passenger friendly and subtle to a point, but with a hooligan streak just below the surface. The reception that a Mog always receives from everyone who meets it is pure enthusiasm and interest. (Even from the family who had the factory driven Aero "land" on their car and front garden. Who we met in a car park during Mog17.)

I do miss my 7, but I know which I would rather be making a road trip in - see below.

Being aware of your position in life, that is why I asked the question because when you remove the door/ side screens on a C7, you loose both of the mirrors.

I tried a couple of Caterham cars before buying the Roadster in 2012. Your perception matches mine perfectly. The Caterham is for someone who wants to do a lot of track days and other forms of off road events. The Morgan is capable on a track but it is better at getting to the circuit than on it.

Just finished our New Years Day race - came second in class and got a bottle of plonk. Its a persuit race rather than a serious one, and there are dinghies involved as well as cruisers, all inside the barrage. The overall winner was a young girl in a Laser - wind was 8kn and the water was flat so the lumbering cruisers like mine didnt stand a chance.

Nevertheless, a bit of fresh air and not too cold even if its winter in this hemisphere

I think you should get an Amphicar.

I love Amphicars. They really float my boat.

Caterham sell these 'arms' and describe them as 'SVA mirror mount kit' and charge the princely sum of £30.20 per mirror. It doesn't include the mirror head as this is taken off the mirror mounted to the sidescreen. There is a picture on their parts website.

Frankly though, it should be cheaper and just as easy to find an offside mirror through one of the various suppliers like SVA or Holden etc.

Howard I do love your style. You start a fairly in depth discussion about the differences between Caterhams and Morgans and then just blithely move on to sailing - respect. Your topics are never boring, although sailing a cruiser in light airs verges very close to boring.

Ok , this is a very serious inyaface SV (wide body so lots of room ) 7 which would be my choice , can't think of many similarities to a Morgan except Brit sports car perfection ! 0-60 in a blink of an eye !

I am reading this with interest! I’ve been seriously considering a Caterham as an alternative to a Morgan. Both British, both come with a lot of heritage and both are very distinctive. I have tried a Supersport with the 140bhp Sigma and ended up thinking that I might kill myself! Huge fun but just too tempting to drive like a hooligan. I’m wondering if a Three Wheeler might offer me some of the fun and raw feeling of the Caterham. I’ve driven a few but some time ago and the noise of the transfer box put me off at the time.
