I’ve taken the insulating bit and the spring out and boy is it badly corroded inside More contact cleaner needed methinks

It's the rust.... get some sandpaper and rough it all up inside the fitting. I will eat my own face if the bulb doesn't illuminate.

Thanks for your help chaps but it looks like a connection problem with the central pin and the wiring that comes into the back which I can’t get to

if you haven't ordered a new fitting yet Stewart, a trick (bodge!) I have used which sometimes works is a blob of solder on the end of the bulb.It makes the bulb just that little bit longer and is sometimes just enough to ensure a good contact.....

To try and prevent future water ingress, try smearing some vasaline around the lens where it goes into the rubber surround, it has kept water out of mine for three years.
Here for a good time not a long time!!

At the end of the day the fittings are absolute rubish. Half the time you can't get the screws back in. I had the insulating washer in one warp and sink back into the spring. That was what caused mine to fail. I managed to get it functioning in some way but then when I tried to get the lens back on it was impossible to get one of the screws in. Apparently this is a common problem.
I have been searching for a replacement LED lamp (to replace the while fitting) but they don't seem to be available in this size.

I’ve solved this one in the past by putting a dab of solder on the bulb terminal to make the bulb a bit longer, alternatively a dab on the terminal of the fitting is a. more permanent fix.

Stewart looking at the corroded contacts can you use some emery paper on them or spray some contact cleaner.
That should help.
