Hi Lance,
I bolted the stainless panels to the painted substructure through the same holes used by the original side leather and central aluminum panels. I placed very thin rubber strips on the back of the stainless panels to protect the paint underneath.

We need an upper midwest/Great Lakes group to coordinate drives/meetups. Feel free to message me through the site and perhaps we can figure out an easy way to keep in touch. Joe

No distortion of the thin metal from the bolts? Have the new style dash and would love to get it done.

Lance, the .030 inch stainless steel is still very strong. I tightened the bolts snug but didn’t crank them down. However, one of the bolt heads did cause trace surrounding distortion but not very noticeable.
Joe at least for the southern WI/ Chicago area M3W group Lake Geneva, WI is a great and easy place to meet up and drive around for a few hours. I also think Inge’s suggestion of a trip to the S&S factory with a few M3Wers would be fun.

I am thinking we could get some folks from northwest Indiana up through IL and WI at least. We could either start a thread here, or I noticed there is a meetup forum (although I don’t know how many have noticed that...I just found it today, almost 3 years after finding this forum...)

Hi Sportster, I just wanted to thank you for your template work with FPM Metals! After being very disappointed with the engine turned side panels that Morgan West sold me (swirls going different directions between the two panels and scratched) I contacted FPM who said he had done the M3W parts already but was not sure that one M3W would match another. FMP does great quality work and they mounted up without issue!

Joe, setting up an impromptu get together in Lake Geneva would be easy and we can talk about an S&S visit. If we could guarantee enough vehicles we could reserve the parking lot or part of it next to Popeyes restaurant right across from the lake. Quite of few car group get togethers meet there. We would be quite a spectacle. We could meet there, eat lunch, and ride around the perimeter of the lake which is about 20 miles going through some of the more scenic areas. My wife and I ride down there quite abit. Closer to better weather we can plan that.
3Gs I’m happy the side templates fit perfectly for you. FPM Metals does great work. I would suspect the side templates will fit most M3Ws. The central one will require a reconfiguration of how you mount the speedometer/tach. If you have a pic of your dash I’d like to see it.
Right now I’m sitting in front of the fireplace drinking a glass of champagne and big snowflakes are falling outside. Somewhere it’s 75 and sunny.
Happy New Year Everyone!

Hello Sportster
Your steering wheel is extraordinary. Is it a commercially sold kit or is it something handmade? For my part I have for the moment a motolita wood / stainless steel

A friendly warning .......
Before anyone orders a Lempert steering wheel , I strongly advise googling for other customers reviews. I have seen many , covering many makes of car like MG , Jag etc where customers waited extended periods before receiving their order - in some cases over a year. He openly states he is a one man band , and gets overloaded with orders.
Not one is faulting the obvious craftsmanship of the final product , a few were bemoaning broken delivery date promises, and many describing extended delivery lead times and lack of communication.
All sounds horribly familiar .......
